2.0 HAZARDOUS WASTE
2.1 Introduction
BoReTech'
This section addresses the proper characterization, handling, storage, and disposal of
hazardous wastes. Hazardous wastes are highly regulated and the regulatory programs
mandate detailed management requirements. The federal hazardous waste regulations
are contained in CFR, Title 40, Parts 262 — 279 (40 CFR 262 — 279). This Hazardous
Materials and Hazardous Waste Standard Operating Procedures plan satisfies
California state -specific requirements, and citations are included as well.
This section assumes the facility generates no more than 2,200 pounds (Ibs) of
hazardous waste per month. The facility is a Small Quantity Hazardous Waste
Generator (SQG). Please contact the Amec Foster Wheeler Project Manager if the
facility fits one or more of the following conditions:
1. Large Quantity Generator (LQG): Facilities that generate more than 2,200 lbs of
hazardous wastes in a month — more stringent rules will apply
2. Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator (CESQG): Facilities that
generate no more than 220 lbs of hazardous wastes in any calendar month —
less stringent rules may apply
The basic components of this section include:
• Program Requirements (Section 2.2)
• Accumulation time limits (Section 2.2.3)
• Waste handling and storage requirements (Section 2.2.4)
• Labeling Requirements (Section 2.2.5)
• Inspection Requirements (Section 2.2.6)
• Transportation and disposal procedures (Section 2.2.7)
• Land disposal restrictions (Section 2.2.8)
• Use of City/County Hazardous Waste Collection Events (Section 2.3.1)
• Management of specific waste streams (Section 2.3.2)
• Agency notifications (Section 2.4)
• Employee Training and Notification (see Section 2.5)
• Agency Guidance and References (see Section 2.6)
Boretech Hazardous Materials & Hazardous Waste Management Operations Plan Page 18
