Simplot Spill CO0025890
16777 Howland Rd Page 1 of 7
February 14, 2007 Inspection Report
I received the call about the spill and arrived on-site at 12:43 p.m. I met with John Yanak who stated that as
they were cleaning out the boil out sulfate crystallizer, the site glass(small viewing window)blew out
allowing the weak ammonium sulfate solution (pH 3.4) to spill out. The tank has a capacity of 100,000
gallons. He stated the liquids ran onto asphalt and into the site sumps which discharge to lined ponds which
are under the oversight of the Regional Board. Some discharged into the ditch that runs along the shoulder on
both sides of Howland Rd.
I toured the release site with Floyd and took pictures. I left the site at 1:35 p.m.
Linda Turkatte, Lead Senior REHS
Photo #I: Area to the west and north of the crystallizer showing liquid still present and being pumped into
draina e s stem ently to lined ponds.
` 1
v
1
