i 1/2"MODEL MAINTENANCE Is
.Arrrirrrr rrririonr - n i r i s i
AIR VALM MAINTENANCE
If the pump starts to lose capacity, the air inlet filter (8)may be
Alignment notches on both outer clogged with debris from the air line. Remove the O-ring (9)
chambers and intermediate which retains the filter inside the air inlet. Tilt pump forward and
shake filter out of inlet. Clean filter and return filter to position
inside air inlet. Slide O-ring back into position.
If there is evidence that the components of the air valve may
have become damaged the air valve is accessed by removing the
\ four bolts (1I)from the intermediate. Remove valve plate(5) and
shuttle valve (6) and inspect plate for surface scratches. If badly
scratched, replace. Note: The pump can be left piped while ser-
vicing air valve.
The air valve plug (1) at the bottom of the air valve is removed
o by utilizing compressed air. Push the plug and"air valve spool out
of the air valve body .with the aid of the compressed air applied in
the port nearest the closed end of the air valve(7). The lower end
plug O-Ring (44) may be left in place. See diagram of air valve
components below.
Single vertical air passage slot
is at the top of the intermediate. AIR VALVE
SPOOL
Item 2 END PLUG
Notice a witness line on the outer diameter of the chamber and Item t
the intermediate in line with the air valve. Line up the witness e
marks, then assemble the band clamp. The clamp halves (16) ne-
cessarily fit tightly over the outer chamber and intermediate, par-
ticularly when an overlay is used with the diaphragm. To make
this assembly easy get a piece of twine about 18 inches long. Par- • da •
tially assemble the clamp halves over the intermediate and outer "C
chamber keeping the witness line aligned. Loop the center of the
twine over one bolt flange of the clamp. Then wrap the doubled
twine around the mating clamp flange several turns and pull snug- FILTER
gly bringing the two bolt flanges together, close enough to as- Item 8 "
semble the second stud and nut. Tighten to 15 ft-pounds.
Note: The V-band clamp fasteners are stainless steel Shown above is a cut-away of the air valve. Note the open
and will gall when tightened. Place the previously assembled discharge (top)manifold (21)
On'a flat surface with the ball check cavity facing up and with the AIR VALVE
four long bolts (35), with washers (10) through the manifold sub- BODY
assembly. Place the check balls, seats, and 0-rings in position. Item 7 VALVE PLATE
Be certain that the O-ring groove side of the seat is facing up.
Item 5
16. Notice the position of the port in the manifold. Place the in-
termediate assembly over the bolts with the check ball cavities
facing up. Make sure, the air valve is on the proper side of the ®® ,
pump from the discharge port for your application. Usually both I
ports are on the opposite side from the air valve. Then place the
check ball(27), valve seat(26)and check valve O-ring(38) in po-
sition in the intermediate. See picture.
17. Place the preassembled inlet manifold over the intermediate SHUTTLE
subassembly. Be certain that the 0-rings remain centered in their
grooves. Place flat washers (10) and nuts (19) on bolts (35) and VALVE
tighten to 120 in-pounds. Item 6
18. Test the integrity of the assembly with a safe liquid and slow-
ly bring the air up to 100 psi (6,8 bars) with the discharge port
shut off. Look for a leak and tighten bolts again, if necessary.
Page 7 Zp:025T0
