SIMPLOT COMPANY, 16777
HOWLAND ROAD, LATHROP, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Staff of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region (Central Valley
Water Board) has reviewed the Conceptual Design for Pilot Study(Work Plan), dated 16 July 2012.
The Work Plan was prepared by AMEC Environment & Infrastructure (Amec) on behalf of J.R. Simplot
Company (J.R. Simplot) for the J.R. Simplot manufacturing facility (Site), The Site is located at 16777
South Howland Road in Lathrop, San Joaquin County.
J.R Simplot proposes the following work as part of the pilot study for corrective action of groundwater to
treat salts (sulfate, ammonia, chloride, etc.):
- Groundwater extraction from existing water table zone well EP-1,
- Treatment of extracted groundwater by reverse osmosis,
- Treated water and treatment system concentrate testing,
- Discharge of the treated water and concentrate into the lined process water pond for reuse in
the facility processes.
In a 15 August 2012 e-mail, Central Valley Water Board staff requested the following additional
information to complete the evaluation.of the Pilot Study Work Plan:
- A detailed design plan of the proposed work,
- A sampling plan to monitor the water quality,
Information on total dissolved solids (TDS) and salt concentrations from nearby
extra ctionlgroundwater well(s) for water quality comparison,
Information on salt concentration that will be discharged to the pond;
Calculations showing that the proposed pumping rate of 18 gallons per minute (gpm) will not
cause exceedance of pond capacity.
J.R.Simplot provided the response to staff's e-mail in the Addendum to Conceptual Design for Pilot
Study,'dated 6 September 2012.
KARL E.
