SCOTT VINCENT
PAGE 2
this time. Any test wells needed for gathering data on the
feasibility of various remediation alternatives should be
installed and any preliminary tests should be completed during
this next phase of field work.
The contamination noted in the septic pit during the drilling of
monitoring well #4 at a depth of approximately 25-30 feet BGS was
also discussed. Although PHS/EHD is not the lead agency for
oversight of the mitigation of this soil contamination plume, it
will need to be addressed at some point in the future for
complete clearance of this property as a contaminated site.
The need for reliable data during this investigation was also
discussed at the meeting. Proper detection limits and quality
control/quality assurance data help to provide an indication that
the data presented is reliable and representative of actual site
conditions. Complete chain of custody forms that follow the
samples handling route and condition from the field to the
laboratory are also an indication of reliable data.
At times where field observations (i.e. petroleum odors or
discoloration of the soil) conflict with the laboratory data, a
conservative approach is usually taken and the data is suspected
as unreliable. Additional confirmation testing is usually
required in these cases.
The groundwater should continue to be tested for fecal coliform
and total lead at this time. If you would like to reduce the
frequency of groundwater sampling events, the number of wells to
be sampled or the constituents to be analyzed for per sampling
event, you may submit a modified sampling plan to this office for
review and concurrence.
If you have any questions please contact Linda Turkatte, REHS, of
my staff at (209) 468-0339.
Jogi Kh rha., M.D. M.P.H.
Healt Ocer J
G
urie A. otu a, EHS, Program Manager
environmental Health Division
LAC/lt
c: Beth Thayer-CVRWQCB
c: Erich Beringer-AREG
400 E.
