MOW.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION! DEC a 7 1992
a SOM REM:EDUTION
FORMER MAJOR MART GASOLINE STA ON ENVIRONME
# !4EALTH
4 F PERMMSERVICES
:a
INTRODUCTION F
Recent investigations of shallow soils onsite have shown that gasoline components currently
remain only in a corner of the bottom of the tank excavation pit and perhaps in a portion of the
soil stored on the east part of the property which came from the original tank removal. An
excavation and investigation project is now planned to removethese impacted soils and complete a
the portion of the project focused on the shallow soils by filling the excavation to the surface.
Future work, if any, will involve below grade drilling which will not materially impact the
surface of the site.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION i
• i'i
The excavation and site restoration will be completed as follows:
it
• The existing soil stockpile will be sampled further to deter 'mine if gasoline components
remain in the soil. Limited prior work indicates little to no gasoline residues are now }
present in the soil. If the soil is free of gasoline residues, it will be used for filling in
the excavation pit. If residues remain, the soil will be hauled offsite for treatment. i
if
i
• After sampling, the stockpile will be temporarily relocated to the south edge of the
I
property to provide access to the existing pit by excavation:fequipment.
• The excavation will be deepened to a maximum of 40 feet ,below grade (if necessary) to
remove soils having gasoline residues. The soil removed will be classified by a mobile
laboratory onsite and hauled away to an appropriate disposal site. A review of soil
stability has been completed to assure excavation to the target depth will not affect any
nearby buildings. i
• During the excavation, air monitoring will be conduct d to assure no significant
emmissions of gasoline residues are released. If such emmissions are identified, work
will cease and the excavation will be covered. Appropriate, measures will then be taken
to control any emissions prior to continuing the excavation:
it
• After the-completion of the excavation work, the tank pit 'will be filled with clean soil
li {either from the existing stockpile or from an offsite source) and the area paved with
asphalt. i
SC ULE
i
Preparations for the excavation work is expected to take two days ands the actual excavation one
Ik day. Soil removal is expected to require a maximum of two days. Backfill of the excavation i
pit will require two days and grading of the area and paving will require two days. As some
coordination time is expected, the entire project should require a total of twelve working days
four days. All work!swill be conducted during
with intensive work occupyingor three to g
Y Y ;
daylight hours on weekdays.
i j.
