AEI Project No. 353448
January 29, 2016
Page 2of5
• A fenced gravel area adjacent to the pesticide mixing area was observed to be the
storage location for used pesticide containers. Additionally, seven empty 55 -gallon
pesticide containers, one empty 5 -gallon oil container, and several empty, unlabeled 5 -
gallon containers were observed along the exterior of the west side of the fenced in
area.
Several disintegrated bags of sulfur dust were observed to be stored on soil adjacent to
the south of the retention pond. A truck with pesticide application equipment was
observed full of sulfur dust and stored on dirt.
The subject property is equipped with a pesticide mixing area. One drain is located in
the central portion of this mixing area to catch excess water and pesticides that may
spill during the mixing process. The drain leads to a nearby retention pond. White
residue was observed in the vicinity of the drain, as well as in the retention pond.
Additionally, minor staining was observed near a 100 -gallon gasoline above -ground
storage tank (AST) in the vicinity of the mixing area.
AEI was requested to perform an additional investigation to determine if pesticide storage and
use at the subject property has negatively impacted the subsurface.
3.0 Geology and Hydrogeology
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) San Francisco Bay Quadrangle
Geologic Map, soils in the area are characterized as Holocene -aged alluvium, commonly
composed of gravel, sand, silt, and clay.
According to the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) GeoTracker database, the
depth to groundwater at a nearby site is approximately 1 to 4 feet below ground surface (bgs).
The closest surface water body is an irrigation ditch, adjacent to the north end of the subject
properly.
4.0 Scope of Work
AEI was requested to perform an additional investigation, including the collection of soil
samples, to determine if onsite storage and/or use of waste oil and pesticides has adversely
affected the subsurface at the subject property.
4.1 Health and Safety, Permitting, and Utility Clearance
A site-specific health and safety plan will be prepared, reviewed by onsite personnel, and kept
onsite for the duration of the fieldwork. Drilling permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) for this investigation. The public
underground utility locating service USA North will be notified to identify public utilities in the
work area. Private utility locating will be conducted by an independent utility locating company
retained by AEI to identify underground utilities on the property and shift boring locations, as
appropriate.
