AEI Project No. 353448
January 29, 2016
Page 3of5
Drilling and Sample Collection
The scope of work proposed consists of drilling and logging twelve (12) soil borings (B1 through
B12) at the property (Figure 2). The selected drilling contractor will hold a State of California C-
57 driller's license.
The purpose of each boring is listed below:
• Boring B1 will be located adjacent to surface staining in the waste oil storage area.
• Boring B2 will be located adjacent to the northwest side of the retention pond.
• Boring B3 will be advanced in between the southwest end of the retention pond and the
aviation fuel AST.
• Boring B4 will be advanced adjacent to the aviation fuel AST and southwest of the sulfur
dust pile.
• Boring B5 will be advanced adjacent to the surface staining by the hazardous materials
shed.
• Boring B6 will be advanced adjacent to the surface staining within the hangar.
• Boring B7 will be advanced within the new pesticide container storage area, near the
southern corner of the hangar.
• Boring B8 will be advanced within the new pesticide container storage area and near the
southwest end of the office building.
• Boring B9 will be advanced within the empty pesticide container storage area.
• Boring B10 will be advanced within the empty pesticide container storage area, adjacent
to the pesticide mixing/vehicle washing area.
• Boring B11 will be advanced adjacent to the drain within the pesticide mixing/vehicle
washing area.
• Boring B12 will be advanced adjacent to the 100 -gallon gasoline AST, located south of
the pesticide mixing/vehicle washing area.
The borings will be advanced with a truck -mounted direct -push drilling rig. The borings will be
advanced to a depth of 5 feet bgs except for Boring B11, which will be drilled to a depth of 7
feet bgs or to first encountered groundwater, whichever is shallower, for the collection of soil
and/or groundwater samples. Soil in the borings will be continuously collected in liners within
the sampling barrel from which a 6 -inch sample will be collected at appropriate depths. Soil
samples will be collected at selected intervals or at a change in lithology whichever is first.
The samples will be sealed with Teflon tape and plastic end caps. The soil borings will be
logged using the Unified Soil Classification System. A photo ionization detector (PID) will be
used to screen soil samples in the field and the PID readings for each sample will be included
on the boring logs. Groundwater (if encountered) will be collected in laboratory supplied
containers.
