Document Number: <br /> PILKINGTON <br /> Instruction - Lathrop Rev. 0 Date: 3/28/11 <br /> WASTE MANAGEMENT <br /> GENERAL DRUM The procedure for placing waste containers in the hazardous waste storage <br /> HANDLING& area is as follows: <br /> DISPOSAL PROCEDURE <br /> • ONLY TRAINED PERSONNEL CAN PLACE MATERIAL INTO THE <br /> HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE. <br /> • Before taking the drums to storage, the forklift driver or other <br /> designated person must obtain the key from one of the designated key <br /> holders in the facility. <br /> • The key holder will ensure the drum(s) have been properly labeled <br /> before issuing the access key. <br /> • If the drum has been properly labeled, the key holder will issue a key for <br /> the gate to the waste area. With the key, the forklift driver or designee <br /> will place the drum(s) in the appropriate area for disposal. <br /> • The forklift driver or designee will return the key to the key holder <br /> immediately after securing the waste in the storage area. <br /> RECORDKEEPING & Requirements: <br /> MONITORING • A weekly check must be performed to ascertain the adequate condition <br /> of the Hazardous Waste Storage Area. These inspections will be <br /> conducted by the EH&S Manager or designee. <br /> ROLL-OFF BIN 20-40 yard Roll-off bins are located outside at various locations on the plant <br /> MANAGEMENT grounds for management of general trash, cardboard, metal, dust collector <br /> dust bags, wood and waste batch. <br /> The following general guidelines shall be followed when placing waste in <br /> the roll-off bins: <br /> • Never overfill the bins (20 yard bins for waste batch and dust bags <br /> should only be filled 60-75%full max.) <br /> • Do not place waste batch or dust bags in wood,trash or metal bins <br /> • Place waste only in its designated container <br /> • Do not block access to the bin <br /> • No bins should be filled over the top of the bin <br /> • Do not put any chemical substances or liquids in any roll-off bin <br /> {including oils, greases, paints, mercury containing devices) <br /> EMERGENCY In case of an emergency, refer to the Integrated Contingency Plan <br /> PREPAREDNESS Procedures as applicable. <br />
