a J
® Document Number: 909 R 5003
PI LKINGTON
Procedure Rev: 5 Date: 5/24/07
EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES
Additional Services
• Eyewash stations and showers are located throughout the facility.
• Red emergency phones are located throughout the facility and give the caller a
direct connection to the security officer.
Procedures for Addressing Hazardous Chemical Releases
Including Hazardous Waste
The emergency response procedures address steps to be taken in the case of a
release of a hazardous chemical or waste. The facility may opt to manage the
release of a small quantity of a hazardous chemical or waste. The
ENVIRONMENTAL Manager is responsible for responding to such incidents
and/or directing a response.
In the case of the release of an acutely hazardous material, welding gases, or
other material deemed too large or dangerous for facility personnel to handle, the
incident commander will instruct security to call the Lathrop-Manteca Fire
District. The fire department is the first responder in such cases. Working with
plant personnel, the fire department may request assistance from the San
Joaquin County OES or a private clean-up firm.
Depending upon the nature of the emergency, assistance may be required from
the Lathrop Police and San Joaquin County Sheriff. The facility's close proximity
to 1-5 may require the California Highway Patrol to be notified as well.
In the event that injuries occur during an emergency, the fire department's
paramedics will be responsible for determining what area hospitals will be used.
San Joaquin General Hospital (French Camp) and St. Dominic's Hospital
(Manteca) are approximately the same distance from the facility.
Post-Emergency Guidelines
The following guidelines should be observed following any emergency, especially
those involving the release of a hazardous chemical.
Handling of Recovered Waste
909R5003 Rev. 5/20/04
