3. PERSONNEL REQUIRED AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> Project Manager: The Project Manager(PM) is responsible for ensuring that field personnel have been <br /> trained in the use of these procedures and for verifying that the development procedures are performed <br /> in compliance with this SOP. At a minimum, the PM will maintain contact with the client or contractor <br /> involved, will be available by phone during the field activities and will review field notes for <br /> completeness. <br /> Field Geologist/Field Engineer/Sojl Scientist/Technician: The Feld staff person assigned to the project is <br /> responsible for complying with this SOP. Responsibilities include: preparation for field activities, <br /> ensuring equipment is in working order and clean prior to the field event, providing adequate field <br /> documentation of events, observations, readings, measurements, volume of water, and overall <br /> development activities. <br /> 4. EQUIPMENT REQUIRED <br /> • Tool Box <br /> • Disposable gloves <br /> • Decontamination supplies <br /> • Water Level Meter/tape and paste/other device <br /> • Measuring tape <br /> • Indelible marker/Drum labels <br /> • Surge Block <br /> • Development pump and hoses OR bailers and line <br /> • Several 5-gallon buckets with 1 gallon increments noted <br /> • 55-gallon drums or other water storage facility <br /> • Well Development Forms <br /> 5. PROCEDURE <br /> After completion of monitoring well installation, and no sooner than 48 hours following emplacement of <br /> the well seals, the well shall be developed as described below. Prior to insertion in any well, all <br /> equipment will either be decontaminated or will be deemed clean, or previously unused, by the <br /> manufacturer. <br /> • Open all monitoring wells at the site and allow to equilibrate approximately 15 minutes. Denote <br /> time and visual observations regarding well access, condition, security, etc. in logbook. <br /> • Obtain initial depth to groundwater level readings from the point of survey mark, or from the <br /> North side of the top of the PVC casing, if not point of survey mark is present. Readings will be <br /> measured to the nearest 0.01 foot. Denote time and readings inlogbook and on forms provided. <br /> • Obtain depth to casing bottom for each well. Readings will be measured to the nearest 0.01 <br /> foot. Denote readings in logbook, and compare with boring log information. <br /> • Calculate the volume of standing water in each monitoring well. Denote the volume calculated <br /> for each well in logbook and/or on forms provided. <br /> • Alternate surging/swabbing of the screened interval and purging of the water: <br /> — Surging/Swabbing: Using either a surge block, the purge pump, or a heavy bailer, swab the <br /> screened portion of the well by lowering the surge equipment to the bottom of the well, <br /> rapidly raising and lowering the equipment in 2-foot intervals in a plunger-like fashion.
