NOV-16-2001 1215 P.03i20
10 September 2001
AGB-NC Project No. 01-0861
Page 2 of 4
According to the CV-RWQCB IS January. 2001 letter, the maximum and average Ili-leachable
Chromium VI repotted.in samples collected-by MonierL.ifetile was 20 micrograms per liter.(pg(L),
which may he partially erroneous.
AGE was retained to collect sample#from the waste the stockpile located at the subject site it 925
West Anderson Street, Stocktor9.Caisfornia.)&.Ross Atkinson was contacted by AGE to determine
the'mamber of samples and obtsW approval of the sampling method prior to collection of samples.
Pursuant to#telephone conference with Mr:Atkinson,the scope of work included-the collecdari and
analysis of twenty concrete waste file samples. Sample locations were determined using a 20-foot
grid pattern over the orginally 200-foot by 280-foot stockplle which was divided into 132 equal grid
squares(Fds). Pursuant to the suggestion of W.Atkinson, Et.random number generator was then
used to determine the twenty grids to be sampled.
Grids sampled are illustrated on Figure 2, After construction of the stockpile map,'but prior to
sainpling an 23 August 2001,the stockpile had been consolidaWd and the aerial dimensions reduced;
therdbre, some of the randomly selected Vids could not be sampled.Where the randomly-selected
Sad could not be sampled,the closest Ascent,unsampled grid was chosen. yi
r
a ..
2A. WASTI TILE SAMPI.Z COLLECTION PROCMURES
Samples were collected on 23 August 2001 utilizing an excavator to pothole in each desired
sampling location. samples were oblleeted from the excavator bucket using a metric soil sampler
and 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves. The sleeves were packed fill of soil to minimize head apace, the
ends were covered with TeSbn sheets and were then sealed with a plastic end cap and duct tape.
Each sleeve was labeled with the sample identification, collection date and time.and with the sample
collectors initials.
The preserved sample was thenstaredin a chilled container pending shipment to a OM-certified
analytical laboratory under chain of custody for analysis- -Each sample was analyzed for the
following;
• Total petroleum hydrocarbon`s quay fieri as diesel(TPH-d) by EPA Method 80ISM;
+. TPH-d(EPA'80I S"using a WET Method with DI water; and,
• IlexavalerA chromium (Chromium VI) by EPA Method. 7196A (Waste Bxtraction Test; -
WET)using dc-ionized(AI)water.
