New Aboveground Tanks Holding RCRA Hazardous Waste and UST Systems — For the following <br /> types of tank systems, the requirements of 66265.192(h)do not apply: <br /> Aboveground tank systems containing RCRA hazardous wastes generated onsite when the <br /> owner/operator is subject to the requirements of 40 CFR Part 265. <br /> Underground storage tank systems. <br /> Prior to placing a new tank system of this type in service, the owner/operator must obtain a written <br /> assessment as described below.The assessment must be reviewed and certified by an independent,qualified <br /> Cali fo rnia-registered PE attesting that the system has sufficient structural integrity, is acceptable for the <br /> transferring, storing and treating of hazardous waste, and that the tanks and containment system are suitably <br /> designed to achieve the requirements of Article 10. 122CCR 0-6265.192(a)l <br /> The assessment must include the following information: 122CCR§66265.192(a)) <br /> ❑ Hazardous characteristics of the waste(s)to be handled; 122CCR§66265.192(a)(2)l <br /> ❑ Design standard(s) according to which the tank(s) and ancillary equipment are or will be constructed; <br /> 122CCR§66265.192(a)(1)l <br /> ❑ Design considerations(i.e.,calculations) to ensure that: <br /> ❑ Tank foundations will maintain the load of a full tank; 122C.CR§66265.192(a)(S)(A)l <br /> ❑ Tank systems will be anchored to prevent flotation or dislodgment where the tank system is placed <br /> in a saturated zone,or is located within a seismic fault zone; 122CCR§66265.192(a)(5)18)1 <br /> ❑ Tank systems will withstand the effects of frost heave. 122CC11§6626s.192(a)(5)(C)l <br /> ❑ For tank systems or components in which the external shell of a metal tank or any external metal <br /> component of the tank system is or will be in contact with the soil or with water, a determination by a <br /> corrosion expert of: 122CCR§66265.192(1x3)1 <br /> ❑ Factors affecting the potential for corrosion, including but not limited to: soil moisture content; soil <br /> pH; soil sulfides level; soil resistivity; structure to soil potential; influence of nearby underground <br /> metal structures (e.g., piping); stray electric current; and existing corrosion-protection measures <br /> (e.g.,coating,cathodic protection). <br /> ❑ The type and degree of external corrosion protection that are needed to ensure the integrity of the <br /> tank system during the use of the tank system or component, consisting of one or more of the 1 <br /> following: corrosion-resistant materials of construction such as special alloys or fiberglass- <br /> reinforced plastic; corrosion-resistant coating (e.g., epoxy or fiberglass) with cathodic protection <br /> UNI-047-7114 www anidocs.org Rev.01/07/08 <br />
