Metal fines disposal.
Wade Broughton incorrectly stated during inspection in the welding area and the facility
maintenance shop the the metal fines in these areas were being thrown into the trash. This
should not have been identified as a compliance issue. The employees of their own accord,
chose to handle these fines in the same manner as they had been
instructed for fines from the stand grinders. Wade was not aware of
that practice. They installed a vacuum cleaner beneath the welders'
bench and it was dated 4-11-11 when the contents were last
deposited into the accumulation container by the stand grinders.
These materials are handled as hazardous waste. The contents from
the accumulation containers are consolidated as in the drum labeled
"grinding grit" and is scheduled for pickup by our hazardous waste
hauler, UNIVARUSA, between August 5-12, 2011.
