ST <br /> AP R VEATUS 71' <br /> AGES <br /> PR/SD 4/29/96 2 Exempt; Pilon—exempt of 2 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Under the general direction of the Plant Manager and/or Plant Superintendent, maintains records <br /> and conducts environmental, sanitation and safety activities to help ensure compliance with <br /> government legislation and management directives. Receives functional direction and instruction <br /> w from Corporate Environmental Engineer. <br /> Basic requirements are Bachelor of Science Degree preferably in Environmental Engineering or <br /> Industrial Hygiene with three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education <br /> and experience. Must have good communication skills, computation skills and experience with <br /> computer applications. <br /> SPEC[FiC DUTIES <br /> 1. Maintains all environmental, sanitation and safety records including taking measurements and <br /> making calculations relative to ink/solvent consumption and regulated pollutant emissions. <br /> Updates material safety data sheets (MSDS) books and files. <br /> Prepares plant permit applications and renewals as directed by Corporate Environmental Engineer. <br /> 3. Prepares and updates required federal, state and local environmental reports, e.g., Emergency <br /> Response Plan, Storm Water Management Plan, Hazardous Waste Biennial Report, Waste <br /> j Minimization Plan, etc. Submits to Corporate Environmental Engineer for approval. <br /> 4. Conducts environmental, sanitation and safety inspections including, but not limited to, hazardous <br /> waste inventory, storage drum conditions, permit conditions, emergency response procedures, and <br /> other required plant safety activities such as for confined spaces, equipment guarding, and <br /> lock—out/tag—out of automated machines. <br /> S. Conducts environmental sampling as required to determine permit compliance including hazardous <br /> waste, storm water, ink as applied, etc. <br /> 6. Chairs the Environmental Committee and plays an active role in the Safety Committee at the <br /> plant to provide current data on environmental, sanitation and safety compliance, to stay abreast of <br /> impacting operating conditions, and to recommend action plans. <br /> 7. Attends local and state environmental, sanitation and safety meetings to keep plant and Corporate <br /> Environmental up—to—date on new/revised regulations issued by state and local governments. Issues <br /> legislative update as requested. <br /> 8. Identifies areas of non--compliance in the plant and confers with printing, finishing, maintenance <br /> and warehouse supervisors to help ensure environmental, sanitary and safety compliance. This <br /> includes evaluating safety procedures and materials safety and making recommendations to the <br /> supervisers for changes. <br /> 9. Evaluates production runs to determine if daily emissions and ink as applied are in compliance with <br /> permit conditions. Reports any excursions to Corporate Environmental and, after concurrence <br /> by the Corporate Environmental Engineer, to the appropriate authorities; makes recommendations <br /> for changes to correct problem. <br /> 10. Identifies waste minimization opportunities. 'Works with supervisors and plant staff to evaluate <br /> feasibility and implement those opportunities which are feasible. <br />
