STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE <br /> Procedure#: 020-0003 Title: <br /> Issue#: 8 G� I/n fTempreang <br /> Issue Date: 9/27/2011 Emergency Procedures: <br /> Supersedes Date: 8/5/2011 Spill Response <br /> 6.0 Procedure <br /> 6.1 The Maintenance Supervisor will: <br /> • Maintain the Spill Control Lockers <br /> • Keep the Spill Control Lockers stocked with PPE, loose absorbents,drain caps,spill dams, <br /> absorbent mats,caution tape,and cones. <br /> • Routinely inspect the lockers to ensure their readiness. <br /> • Re-stock the lockers upon the report of any event that would consume the supply. <br /> 6.1 Emergency Spills(see Definitions)require an emergency response. Plant employees should NOT <br /> respond to an emergency spill. <br /> 6.2 Discovery: <br /> • When you discover a spill,get away from the spill and warn others in the area away. <br /> • Report any spill immediately to the Supervisor in charge of that area. <br /> • Do not begin a cleanup until the Supervisor-In-Charge has assessed the spill and determined it <br /> to be an incidental spill. <br /> 6.3 Determination of nature of spill:Emergency vs. Incidental <br /> • The Supervisor-In-Charge looks for injuries and identifies the spilled material(s). <br /> • Using the definitions above,the Supervisor-In-Charge determines if an Emergency or <br /> Incidental response is necessary. <br /> 6.4 Emergency Spill Response <br /> • If a spill or release is considered an emergency,an orderly facility evacuation will be carried <br /> out,or,the hazards of the spill are isolated and controlled. <br /> • The Supervisor-In-Charge will contact the General Manager,Production Manager,and the <br /> Emergency Environmental Coordinator so that the facility spill plan can be put into effect. <br /> • The Emergency Environmental Coordinator will identify materials;determine the character, <br /> source,amount,and real extent of the release using observation, facility records and <br /> manifests. <br /> • The General Manager will inform corporate environmental. <br /> • Corporate Environmental will assist the facility with phone and written regulatory notification <br /> procedures. <br /> 6.5 Incidental Spill Response <br /> If the spill or release is not an emergency,and you have been properly trained in spill cleanup, <br /> complete the following steps <br /> • Eliminate possible sources of ignition. <br /> • Set up traffic cones or barrier tape around the spill. <br /> • Use MSDSs to identify material(s)released,for spill and leak procedures,and health hazards. <br /> • Don appropriate personal protective equipment. <br /> • Surround the spill with spill socks. <br /> • Place absorbent onto spill. <br /> • Shovel absorbent into a drum. <br /> • Wipe down the spill area with absorbent pads or rags. <br /> • Immediately clear and clean any impacted secondary containment. <br /> Issued By: Jim Dacayanan Authorized By: Bill Lewis Page 3 of 6 <br />
