r r � <br /> 7 <br /> STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE <br /> Procedure#: 020-0003 Title: Tempt iIrTLi�I��.I <br /> Issue #: 8 <br /> Issue Date: 9/27/2011 Emergency Procedures: <br /> Supersedes Date: 8/5/2011 Spill Response <br /> Emergency Spill Response Numbers <br /> Fremouw Environmental Services: 800-559-3274 <br /> 3E: 800-451-8346 <br /> 1.0 Purpose <br /> 1.1 The purpose of this procedure is to prevent injury to persons and damage to property and the <br /> environment in responding to a chemical spill. <br /> 2.0 References <br /> 2.1 IQP 9000 4.21 Policy 0001 <br /> 2.2 T-I Safety Management System Chapter 14,Appendix D <br /> 2.3 T-I Environmental Management System Appendix G <br /> 2.4 T-I Tracy Packaging Environmental Assignment Table <br /> 3.0 Definitions <br /> 3.1 Incidental Spill:All of the following must be true to initiate an Incidental Response to a minor spill. <br /> a. The material must be identified. <br /> b. The employee cleaning up the spill has been trained on the hazards of the material. <br /> c. Hazards are similar to normal working conditions. <br /> d. Outside resources are not needed to remove the material. <br /> e. Employees are not at risk. <br /> f. The environment is not at risk. <br /> g. The facility is not at risk. <br /> h. The spill can be cleaned up with normal personal protective equipment(PPE). <br /> A more detailed definition of points a)through h)are attached to this SOP <br /> 3.2 Emergency Spill:An Emergency spill is one where any of the above conditions are not met,or: <br /> a) Releases involving more than one chemical. <br /> b) Releases where chemical reactions are observed. Such reactions may include smoke, heat <br /> generation, vapor cloud,etc. <br /> c) Small spills where employees experience signs/symptoms of exposure such as dizziness,headache, <br /> or nausea. <br /> d) Natural gas leaks or natural gas line ruptures. <br /> e) Propane releases from the outside storage tanks or unattached lift truck LP tanks. <br /> f) Uncontrolled propane leaks from lift truck fuel systems. This includes ruptured fuel lines. If <br /> tightening the cylinder connection can control the leak,an emergency would not be declared. <br /> g) Uncontrolled compressed gas leaks such as acetylene or oxygen. An emergency would not be <br /> declared if tightening a regulator or valve could control the leak. <br /> h) Any spill or release involving fire. <br /> i) Spills of flammable liquids that exceed 1 gallon(<1400F). <br /> j) Large spills that require respirators to be worn during clean up. <br /> Issued B :Jim anan A d B ill L is Page 1 of 6 <br /> i <br />
