OPERATIQNAND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
SENTINEL UV DISINFECTION SYSTEM
onCalboln
Ultraviolet Light Exposure
This equipment employs powerful sources of ultraviolet radiation in
the UV -A, UV -13 and UV -C region of the electromagnetic
spectrum. Exposure of the eyes or skin to ultraviolet radiation may
cause severe damage.
The Sentinel' reactor is designed to minimize any exposure to
ultraviolet radiation however certain operations will require
personal protection.
Mercury
Mercury is contained within the lamps. If the lamps are broken,
there is a risk of exposure to mercury liquid or vapor. It is
recommended that a mercury spill kit and appropriate personal
safety equipment be available in the event of a spill. An emergency
response plan should be developed with trained responders to
handle any spills.
The greatest probability of a mercury spill will occur during the
handling and storage of lamps. Store lamps in a manner which will
prevent them from breaking and use extreme care when handling
lamps.
Lamps must be recycled using an approved recycling facility or
disposed of as hazardous waste.
Some local governments have specific regulations applicable to the
storage and disposal of mercury containing lamps. The user must
adhere to the specific regulations where applicable.
Maximum Flow Rate
It is critical that during Manual/Automatic/Failure operation, flow
within any single reactor does not exceed the Maximum
Validated/Hydraulic flow specified. Should this flow rate be
exceeded, some or all of the reactor's quartz tubes may fracture
resulting in the lamp mercury being introduced into the water flow.
CALGON CARBON CORPORATION ♦ U.V.
