OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
SENTINEL* UV DISINFECTION SYSTEM
CalgonCarbon
down and energy to dissipate. Lockout, tag -out procedures and all
applicable codes should be followed when isolating power. The
UV reactors should not be operated if any of the control panel
doors are open, and water should not be sprayed around the
electrical equipment.
Hydraulically - The isolation valves both upstream and
downstream of the reactor are to be completely closed off and
locked in position.
STEP 2 Drain reactor before attempting to open the Lamp End Housing covers
or proceeding with the investigation of a Quartz Sleeve breakage.
Open the air vent valve on top of the reactor followed by the drain
valve.
The vent valve must be opened prior to the drain valve in
order to avoid drawing a vacuum on the system.
STEP 3 Remove the Lamp End Housing covers to expose the UV lamps and
Quartz Sleeves.
If Mercury has been released to the air, appropriate safety
measures must be taken such as the use of an Air Purifying
a Respirator (APT) or full evacuation of area until remedial
action has been completed.
STEP 4 Remove Electrical Enclosure cover a top the Sentinel' Reactor to
verify the extent the water traveled. Permit to dry if necessary.
STEP 5 Remove Lamp and Quartz pieces, swab area inside of Lamp End
Housing for trace mercury. Make use of the spill kit described above
for this application.
STEP 6 Remove existing Lamp and Quartz related hardware to permit the
installation of new material. Refer to the Maintenance section for
specific instructions on removing Lamps and Quartz Sleeves.
Lamps operating at the time of the incident surrounding the
failure should also be removed and discarded if it is
determined they were subjected to being submersed in water
following the breakage.
CALGON CARBON CORPORATION ♦ U.V.
