Keep doors to other areas of the building closed, Shut off any ventilation equipment that circulates air to the rest of the workplace. STEP 2 Wear gloves and use other protective equipment as necessary. Refer to workplace label and Material Safety Data Sheet for mercury. STEP 3 Treat the affected area with MERCON SPRAY. STEP 4 Leave the area. Remove protective equipment. STEP 5 Return after 30 minutes wearing protective equipment. Start the cleanup process. Using a straight edge utensil, push the mercury droplets to the center of the spill. Place the mercury in the designated sealed container. Wipe the dustpan with a MERLON wipe and place the wipe in a sealed container. STEP 6 Re -spray the area, wipe with a cloth or paper towels and then place them in the sealed container. STEP 7 If there is a possibility of the bottom of shoes being contaminated, wipe them down with MERCON wipes and dispose of the wipes in the sealed container. STEP 8 Dispose of all containers containing mercury, paper towels or MERLON wipes according to safety standards.
