OPERATIoNAND MAINTENANCE MANUAL <br />SENTINEL UV DISINFECTioNSYSTEM `CalgvnCarbon <br />L/ <br />STEP 1 Open windows and doors to the outdoors and turn on the exhaust fans <br />to ventilate the area. Keep doors to other areas of the building closed, <br />Shut off any ventilation equipment that circulates air to the rest of the <br />workplace. <br />STEP 2 Wear gloves and use other protective equipment as necessary. Refer to <br />workplace label and Material Safety Data Sheet for mercury. <br />STEP 3 Treat the affected area with MERCON SPRAY. <br />STEP 4 Leave the area. Remove protective equipment. <br />STEP 5 Return after 30 minutes wearing protective equipment. Start the <br />cleanup process. Using a straight edge utensil, push the mercury <br />droplets to the center of the spill. Place the mercury in the designated <br />sealed container. Wipe the dustpan with a MERLON wipe and place <br />the wipe in a sealed container. <br />STEP 6 Re -spray the area, wipe with a cloth or paper towels and then place <br />them in the sealed container. <br />STEP 7 If there is a possibility of the bottom of shoes being contaminated, wipe <br />them down with MERCON wipes and dispose of the wipes in the <br />sealed container. <br />STEP 8 Dispose of all containers containing mercury, paper towels or <br />MERLON wipes according to safety standards. <br />Emergency Response Procedure <br />The following steps are provided as a guideline for investigating the existence of a broken <br />{Quartz Sleeve and must be implemented to ensure proper containment. Specific instructions <br />should be tailored based on the installation. <br />STEP 1 Isolate and lock out the UV reactor electrically and hydraulically as <br />follows: <br />Electrically - These UV reactors operate at high voltages. Before <br />any maintenance on the UV reactor is performed, the main <br />electrical supply to the UV reactors should be disconnected and the <br />operator should wait at least five (5) minutes for the lamps to cool <br />CALGON CARBON CORPORATION ♦ U.V.
