SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM POLICY/PROCEDURE MANUAL • TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY PLAN POLICY NUMBER 5.06 PAGE 4 OF 14 Gluteraldehyde Greater than 1/2 gallon 3.2.1 Individual involved with spill will immediately call the service line at 3939 to report the type of hazardous material, provide an estimate of the amount spilled and the location. 3.2.1.1 An operator will page the Safety Director and Environmental Services Manager to verify the need to contact the external contract agency. 3.2.2 If the spilled material is flammable, all ignition sources will be immediately turned off. 3.2.3 In the event of personal injury, the injured party (employee) should immediately report to the Employee Health department or Urgent Care after 6:00 p.m. The Material Safety Data Sheet for the spilled hazardous • material shall be obtained and brought to Employee Health or Urgent care. Visitors or Members should immediately report to Urgent Care, (Medicine 1). 3.2.4 Employees shall identify the material, estimate volume, and if possible will isolate the spill material, provide initial neutralization. The spill area will be evacuated if necessary due to potential exposure over permissible exposure levels. Emergency spill response in the yellow departmental Safety Management manual should be utilized to assist in spill cleanup. 3.2.4.1 If in a common area open to the public, staff should alert patients and visitors and instruct them to evacuate or clear the area. 3.2.4.2 Security will assist in securing the area. 3.2.5 Safety Director 3.2.5.1 Upon arrival at the scene, the Safety Director (designee) will evaluate the extent of the spill to determine the Medical Center's ability to continue further containment and clean up efforts, first using the department's spill kits or the mobile spill can.
