SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM POLICY/PROCEDURE MANUAL <br /> • TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY PLAN POLICY NUMBER 5.06 <br /> PAGE 4 OF 14 <br /> Gluteraldehyde Greater than 1/2 gallon <br /> 3.2.1 Individual involved with spill will immediately call the service line at 3939 <br /> to report the type of hazardous material, provide an estimate of the amount <br /> spilled and the location. <br /> 3.2.1.1 An operator will page the Safety Director and Environmental <br /> Services Manager to verify the need to contact the external <br /> contract agency. <br /> 3.2.2 If the spilled material is flammable, all ignition sources will be <br /> immediately turned off. <br /> 3.2.3 In the event of personal injury, the injured party (employee) should <br /> immediately report to the Employee Health department or Urgent Care <br /> after 6:00 p.m. The Material Safety Data Sheet for the spilled hazardous <br /> • material shall be obtained and brought to Employee Health or Urgent care. <br /> Visitors or Members should immediately report to Urgent Care, (Medicine <br /> 1). <br /> 3.2.4 Employees shall identify the material, estimate volume, and if possible <br /> will isolate the spill material, provide initial neutralization. The spill area <br /> will be evacuated if necessary due to potential exposure over permissible <br /> exposure levels. Emergency spill response in the yellow departmental <br /> Safety Management manual should be utilized to assist in spill cleanup. <br /> 3.2.4.1 If in a common area open to the public, staff should alert <br /> patients and visitors and instruct them to evacuate or clear the <br /> area. <br /> 3.2.4.2 Security will assist in securing the area. <br /> 3.2.5 Safety Director <br /> 3.2.5.1 Upon arrival at the scene, the Safety Director (designee) will <br /> evaluate the extent of the spill to determine the Medical <br /> Center's ability to continue further containment and clean up <br /> efforts, first using the department's spill kits or the mobile spill <br /> can. <br /> Fresno Revision dates: 09/12/96, 6/25/98, 3/30/00, 8/l/01,Stockton revision date 07/22/02, <br /> 09/19/02, 3/20/03 <br />
