g OW o <br /> KAISER <br /> 2 '% PERNMNEWE <br /> MEDICAL CENTER - STOCKTON <br /> SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br /> POLICY/PROCEDURE MANUAL <br /> SUBJECT: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br /> TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY EFFECTIVE DATE: 7/22/02 <br /> PLAN <br /> POLICY NUMBER: 5.06 <br /> DISTRIBUTION: Stockton Medical Center PAGE 1 OF 13 <br /> 1.0 PURPOSE <br /> 1.1 This contingency plan is designed to minimize hazards to human health or the <br /> environment from fres, explosions, or any unplanned sudden or non-sudden <br /> release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents to air, soil, or <br /> surface water. <br /> 2.0 POLICY <br /> 2.1 The provisions of this plan shall be carried out immediately whenever there is a <br /> fire, explosion, or release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents <br /> which could threaten human health or the environment. <br /> 2.2 It is the Medical Center's policy that in those departments where the potential <br /> for significant hazardous material spills exist that those departments are <br /> properly trained and primarily responsible for "first response" at the awareness <br /> level. First response at the awareness level includes primary identification, <br /> isolation, containment, neutralization (when possible) and appropriate initial <br /> clean up procedures based on the type and amount of chemical, level of risk, <br /> time of day/week, and whether or not personal injury has occurred. <br /> 2.1.1 Department staff are required to have Department Specific <br /> Hazard Communication and Hazardous Materials training prior <br /> to being involved in "first response" activities at the awareness <br /> level. <br /> Fresno Revision dates: 09112/96, 6/25/98, 3130/00, 8/l/01,Stockton revision date 07/22/02, <br /> 09/19/02 <br />
