SAFETY MANAGEMENTOGRAM POLICY/PROCEDURE IUAL <br /> TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY PLAN POLICY NUMBER 5.06 <br /> PAGE 2 OF 13 <br /> 2.2 Departments with these responsibilities will be prepared to respond with current <br /> procedures, incidental spill sheets, and equipped to respond with appropriate <br /> equipment and materials. <br /> 2.3 Procedures will outline responsibilities to be assumed by others in the Medical Center <br /> and will specifically address the role of external agencies contracted to address <br /> emergency spills. <br /> 3.0 PROCEDURE <br /> 3.1 Incidental(small) hazardous spills localized to a specific department/area. <br /> PRODUCT INCIDENTAL SPILL VOLUME <br /> Acids Less than 1/2 cup <br /> Bases& Caustics Less than 1/2 gallon <br /> Bleach Less than 1/2 gallon <br /> Flammable Liquids Less than 1/2 gallon <br /> Formaldehyde Less than 3/4 cup <br /> Gluteraldehyde Less than 1/2 gallon <br /> 3.1.1 All departments that use or house hazardous materials shall maintain the <br /> appropriate hazardous materials emergency spill kits and train their employees <br /> in the proper use of these kits. For "first response" at the awareness level <br /> emergency spill response within the yellow Safety Management manual must <br /> be reviewed prior to an incident and utilized to assist in incidental spill cleanup. <br /> 3.1.2 For a spill, the manager/supervisor or involved employee(s) are to immediately <br /> follow notification procedures and begin the process by calling the service he <br /> at 3939. <br /> 3.1.2.1 The operator will continue the notification procedures once <br /> information has been obtained on the hazardous material involved, <br /> location, and amount. <br /> 3.1.3 If the spilled material is flammable, all ignition sources will be immediately <br /> turned off. <br /> 3.1.4 In the event of personal injury, the injured party, (employee), should <br /> immediately report to the Employee Health department or Urgent Care after <br /> 6:00 p.m. Visitors or patients should immediately report to Urgent Care, <br /> (Medicine 1). <br /> Fresno Revision dates: 09/12/96, 6125198, 3/30/00, 8/1/01,Stockton revision date 07/22/02, <br /> 09/19/02 <br />
