SAFETY MANAGEMENTROG RAM POLICY/PROCEDURE N*Nl1AL <br /> TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY PLAN POLICY NUMBER 5.06 <br /> PAGE 3 ©F 13 <br /> 3.1.4.1 The Material Safety Data Sheet for the spilled hazardous material <br /> should be obtained and brought to Employee Health or Urgent <br /> care. <br /> 3.1.5 Personnel must evacuate the spill area immediately only if.- <br /> Breathing <br /> fBreathing becomes difficult. <br /> • Dizziness or other distress occurs. <br /> • Any other difficulties or health symptoms develop indicating short-term <br /> exposure. <br /> • Airborne contaminant level is unknown. <br /> • No department staff are trained in "first response" at the awareness <br /> level. <br /> 3.1.6 Departmental employees will proceed with appropriate identification, isolation, <br /> neutralization, containment, and initial clean up procedures. <br /> 3.1.7 Safety Director <br /> 3.1.7.1 Upon arrival at the scene, the Safety Director (designee) shall <br /> evaluate the extent of the spill and determine if departmental efforts <br /> are appropriate, adequate, and sufficient. <br /> 3.1.7.2 Upon satisfactory clean up of the spill, the Safety Director will, if <br /> necessary or required,notify appropriate regulatory agencies. <br /> 3.2 Emergency (large spill) localized in department or in a common area. <br /> PRODUCT INCIDENTAL SPILL VOLUME <br /> Acids Greater than 1/2 cup <br /> Bases& Caustics Greater than 1/2 gallon <br /> Bleach Greater than 1/2 gallon <br /> Flammable Liquids Greater than 1/2 gallon <br /> Formaldehyde Greater than 3/4 cup <br /> Gluteraldehyde Greater than 1/2 gallon <br /> 3.2.1 Individual involved with spill will immediately call the service line at 3939 to <br /> report the type of hazardous material,provide an estimate of the amount spilled <br /> and the location. <br /> Fresno Revision dates: 09/12/96, 6/25/98, 3/30100, 8/l/01,Stockton revision date 07/22/02, <br /> 09/19/02 <br />
