SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM POLICY/PROCEDURE MANUAL <br /> TITLE: HAZAR sous WASTE CONTINGENCY PL4N POLICY NUMBER 5.05 <br /> PAGE 6 OF 13 <br /> 3.2.7.1 Environmental Services staff are to receive proper hazard <br /> communication and hazardous material awareness training for <br /> first response (isolation, containment, neutralization, and <br /> disposal) of incidental spills. In the event of an incidental spill <br /> will assist the department as necessary with disposal <br /> Environmental Services, in cooperation with external <br /> responders will provide standby at the scene and will assist as <br /> necessary and reasonable with clean final up procedures. <br /> • No EVS personnel shall be involved in secondary clean up or disposal <br /> procedures of emergency or incidental spills without appropriate <br /> Hazardous Materials Training. <br /> 3.2.7.2 Environmental Services will coordinate the removal, storage, and <br /> immediate off-site disposal of the materials involved in spill clean <br /> up, especially those materials which are hazardous after <br /> neutralization. <br /> 3.3 Spills occurring during off-hours. <br /> 3.3.1 Departmental spills will be responded to as they would be in Sections 3.1 or <br /> 3.2. (Emergency Spill response policy should be referenced.) <br /> 3.3.2 Manager/supervisor or employee involved with the spill is to immediately call <br /> the service line to report an emergency size spill and indicate the hazardous <br /> material involved,location, and an estimate of the amount spilled. An operator <br /> will then notify the Clinical Coordinator. <br /> 3.3.2.1 The Clinical Coordinator will follow the administrative policy and <br /> procedure on Emergency Incident Command and will confer with <br /> the Safety Director as necessary to activate the External Response <br /> Team <br /> 3.3.3 If the spilled material is flammable, all ignition sources will be immediately <br /> turned off. <br /> 3.3.4 In the event of personal injury, any injured employee should immediately report <br /> to the Emergency Department. The Material Safety Data Sheet for the spilled <br /> hazardous material should be sent with the employee. <br /> 3.3.5 If the spill is an incidental (small) quantity, trained personnel from the <br /> department involved with the spill will identify the material, isolate the spill, <br /> Fresno Revision dates: 09/12/96, 6/25198, 3/30/00, 8/l/01,Stockton revision date 07122102, <br /> 09/19/02 <br />
