IND
,o-oi%'.
Optional PI3r'hg Sumps
Models PS42.22S,
PS42-308,
SPS42.22A,
SPS42-30A
For Secondary Contain-
ment of Pumps 8 Piping
The piping sump provides
containment of a submersible
pump leak and also provides
a termination point for double-
wall piping systems.
The piping sump is constructed
of fiberglass—a proven mate-
rial for long-term performance—
and features a 30 year struc-
tural and corrosion warranty.
Compared to other unreinforced
plastics, the rigid fiberglass
construction minimizes piping
sump deformation during back-
filling to assure liquid -tight seals
at side and bottom penetrations.
Tanks and piping sumps are
shipped together for improved
jobsite logistics, which mini-
mize jobsite delays and cost
over -runs.
The piping sump is installed
on top of the manway cover
where the submersible pump
is located. Primary piping is
installed from the submersible
pump to the dispenser. When
the double-wall piping is
installed over the primary
piping, the double-wall pipe
connects to one of the two
factory installed fittings in the
side of the piping sump. In the
event of an accidental spill
from the primary piping, the
f iNed product will drain to the
piping sump. Any spill from
the submersible pump is also
contained by the piping sump.
All of the piping sump
cr. ation s, which are used
for electrical and piping Veft-
nections, can be sealed to
provide a "watertight" con-
tainer. A friction fit lid (Model
Series PS) prevents rain water
from entering through the top
of the piping sump. Since the
top is not sealed, the piping
sump will fill with water if the
groundwater table exceeds
the top of the piping sump.
As an option, the piping sump
can be specified with a bolt -on
gasketed lid (Model Series
SPS) to provide an "airtight"
container which can be used
in areas with high ground-
water conditions or where the
owner wants to test the
tightness of the secondary
piping and sump.
O/C Tanks recomn)ends con-
tinuous electronic monitoring
to warn the tank operator of
an excessive accumulation
of petroleum product in the
piping sump.
An optional piping sump sensor
for continuous electronic
monitoring is available. This
sensor is compatible with the
optional O/C Tanks supplied
electronic control panels.
The piping sump is available
with either a 22" ID or 30" ID
manway bolt pattern.
To maximize tank anchoring
safety factors when the tank is
not mechanically anchored, fill
the piping sump with gravel.
If gravel is not used to fill the
piping sump, a maximum of
two piping sumps (or one
piping sump and one unfilled
manway riser) may be used
with tank sizes 10,000 gallon
capacity and larger. Only one
unfilled piping sump (or one
unfilled manway riser) is per-
mitted with tank sizes less
than 10,000 gallon capacity
due to possible buoyant forces.
completed Piping Sump Installation with Optional Sump Sensor
S„ g.,
Foam Board
Fittings for electrical
connections
.-- Piping sump..
diem installed)
Turbine" 3" FRP
bell coupling
Primarypipe--
.Junction box"
Optional piping
Double wall
sumpsensor-
pipe* •
I
'Optional sump sensor kit is available from Owens-Corning
"Contractor supplied items
New Extra reinforcement required above piping sump: M5 rebar B" on
center both ways (2 layers), additional reinforcements extend 4'm all
directions from the center of the piping sump.
