As an optional
accessory, OIC Tanks pro-
vides a piping sump sensor
for continuous electronic
monitoring of the piping sump.
The sump sensor consists of a
float switch (normally closed)
housed in a protective plastic
casing. The float switch is
activated after a 2” accumula-
tion of liquid in the bottom of
the piping sump—approximately
12 gallons of liquid. To improve
the sump sensor sensitivity,
add 2" of gravel to the bottom
of the piping sump. With gravel,
the sensor is activated by
approximately five gallons of
liquid. If gravel is used in the
sump bottom, wrap the sump
sensor sides and bottom with
stones or grit from entering
the sensor casing.
The float has a rounded bottom
to minimize the possibility of
freezing the float in less than
2" of standing water. The
sensor features a trip rod, which
is used to test the float switch
in the installed condition.
The sump sensor is compatible
with the optional electronic
control panels supplied by OIC
Tanks. All electrical components
for the piping sump sensor
are U.L. listed.
In the event the piping sump
sensor detects product in
the piping sump, OIC Tanks
recommends that the power
to the submersible sump
be disconnected. This can
be performed automatically by
providing an electrical feed-
back circuit from the monitoring
system to disengage the sub-
mersible pump.
