U-Haul Facility Number 709-83,450 North Cherokee Lane Lodi, California WPI Project#96237 HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN Page 2 SITE SPECIFIC HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL ACTIVITIES U-HAUIJAMERCO REAL ESTATE Facility Number 709-83, 450 North Cherokee Lodi, California SECTION 1.0 1.1 INTRODUCTION This Health and Safety Plan, prepared by Wayne Perry, Inc. (WPI) describes the basic safety requirements for performing underground storage tank (UST) removals and soil and water sampling at the U-Haul/Amerco Real Estate (U-Haul) facility number 709-83 located at 450 North Cherokee Lane in Lodi, California. The scope of work for this project includes the removal and disposal of one 10,000-gallon gasoline and one 10,000-gallon diesel tanks. The gasoline tank has contained both leaded and unleaded gasoline. Both the diesel and gasoline tanks are of single wall steel construction. Tank appurtenances include dispensers, piping, electrical controls, and vent piping. Site operations will include sawcutting, removal of electrical connections and system appurtenances, concrete removal, excavation, tank rinsing, soil sampling, tank removal, backfilling, resurfacing, tank and soil disposal. The facility is surrounded by a chain link fence that is locked during non-business hours to prohibit public access. A site location map is included as Figure 1. The site layout, showing the locations of the UST's, associated structures, work zones, and evacuation routes are shown on Figure 2. The provisions herein will apply to the employees of WPI, U-Haul and any subcontractor working at a subject site. The subcontractors may elect to modify these provisions, but only to upgrade or increase the safety requirements, and only then with written approval from WPI's Senior Safety Officer.
