-2- <br /> fir' �I <br /> After the tank is extracted, it will be secured on a truck for transport. <br /> The tank and plumbing will be hauled by REDFEARN TRUCKING of Stockton, <br /> (209)948-0800 to TRIANGLE INC OF SACRAMENTO, Sacramento (916)421-1990 for <br /> disposal. All of the above procedures will be done according to code. <br /> Western Meter Service, Inc. Will approach all tank excavations as possible cave- <br /> ins. the following rules will be followed to prevent any mishaps: <br /> 1) Soil to be inspected for stability before and after tank in removed. <br /> 2) Soil is to be kept at least two feet from the edge of the excavation. <br /> 3) If excavation is five (5) feet or more in depth, the sides shall be tapered, <br /> braced or other equivalent methods shall be used to prevent cave-ins. <br /> Precautions will be taken at all times. <br /> Soil samples will be taken by FGL ENVIRONMENTAL of Stockton, CA (209)942-0181. <br /> The method of sampling will be soil excavation by backhoe. Samples will be <br /> taken by hanbd from the backhoe bucket using brassor stainless tubes. Sample <br /> will be taken two to four feet below each end of the tank into native soil. <br /> All of the above procedures will be done according to code. <br /> after the samples have been taken, the hole will be backfilled if approved by <br /> the Local Environmental Health Division representative at the site. <br /> Western Meter Service, Inc. , will hold shop meetings before start of tansk <br /> removal to discuss safety procedures. the "Buddy System" will be discussed and <br /> the course of action to be taken should an injury occur to an employee or other <br /> individual on the site. Some of many rules to be discussed to help prevent <br /> accident or injury are: <br /> 1) Avoid standing on top of the tank --the surface may be slippery. <br /> 2) Check for possible falling objects, slipping and tripping hazards. <br /> 3) visqueen plastic sheeting will be used, if necessary, to cover excavated <br /> soil and will be placed under suspected contaminated soil piles. <br /> 4) Where necessary, the site wil be secured with construction barricades and <br /> warning signbs will be posted to prevent the exposure of unauthorized, unprotect- <br /> ed people to site hazards. <br /> 5) Limit time of exposure to noisy equipment. <br /> 6) Stay upwind from the tank and/or excavati9on to avoid unnecessary ex- <br /> posure whenever pjossible. <br /> 8( Limit exposure by minimizing the exposure time and maximizing the distance <br /> to the source of vapor release. <br /> 9) Avoid the area or take special action when ventilating the tank with water, <br /> dry-ice or air. <br /> 10) Excavation is not to be entered without first monitoring the air. <br /> Western Meter Service,Inc. shall provide Public Health Service/Environmental <br /> Health Division a map showing the shortest route to the nearest hospital to be <br /> used should an injury occur.
