Site Safety Plan for Excavation Activities April 8, 1996 <br /> Military Department OMS#24-Stockton <br /> • Selection of respirators, as well as any decisions regarding upgrading or downgrading <br /> of respiratory protection will be made by the Site Safety Officer. <br /> • Air purifying cartridges shall be replaced at the end of each shift or when load-up or <br /> breakthrough occurs. <br /> • Only employees who have had pre-issued, qualitative fit test and semi-annual fit tests <br /> thereafter, shall be allowed to work in atmospheres where respirators are required. <br /> • Contact lenses shall not be worn. <br /> • Excessive facial hair prohibits proper face fir and effectiveness of air-purifying <br /> respirators. Person required to wear respiratory protection must not have beards, etc. <br /> All personnel will be required to be clean shaven prior to each day's shift. <br /> • Regular eyeglasses cannot be worn with full-face respirators( they break the face <br /> piece seal). Eyeglass inserts shall be utilized. <br /> • The respiratory protection utilized on-site shall be in compliance with 29 CFR <br /> 1910.134 <br /> PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br /> Overhead and buried utilities: <br /> • Overhead and buried utilities should be located, noted, and emphasized on all site <br /> location maps. <br /> • When overhead electrical lines are present at a sire, consider all wires to be live and <br /> dangerous. <br /> • Watch for sagging power lines before entering a site. Do not lift power lines to gain <br /> entrance. Call the utility and ask them to raise the lines or turn the power off. <br /> 7 <br />
