SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA 95851
August 5, 1994
Donna Heran
Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
Post Office Box 2009
Stockton, California 95201
RE: Disposition of Stockpiled Soil - Status Report
John Taylor of Stockton
Dear Ms. Heran:
As a follow-up to your letter requesting documentation on the disposition of a
stockpile of soil resulting from an underground storage tank project completed at our
Stockton facility in October 1991, please be advised that the soil is still on site. Due to
the press of business at the time, the soil was stored in an out-of-the-way location by
our subcontractor pending a determination on how to dispose of the material properly.
The soil, still stored where it was stockpiled, has been overlooked by our site staff ever
since.
However, we are now expediously moving forward to complete disposition of the
soil. Upon the advise of our consultant, we are having the stockpile resampled to
ascertain its current hydrocarbon characteristics. We understand that hydrocarbons
can breakdown over time and may now be present in less concentration than 1991.
Also, such data is necessary to arrange for shipment to a regulated disposal facility
such as Forward, Inc. near Stockton.
Upon receipt of the analytical results, we will contract for removal of the soil as
necessary and file a report with you to assist you in completing closure of this site.
We appreciate you bringing this issue to our attention. Should you have any
questions, do not hesitate to call me at (916) 991-4451.
Since y, '
JO T LOtTaylor
ZERS CO.
nstopher C
Enclosure
g1a,w U404 004 7aryloa es.
