Odor and Noise
Odor pollution is not anticipated to occur during the short duration of this project.
Whenever feasible, engineering control will be implemented to maintain noise levels below 85
decibels. These controls will include isolation, enclosure and application of noise reduction
materials. In the event that these methods are not feasible or effective, affected site personnel
will be given personal hearing protection.
3.23 FIRE PREVENTION PROGRAM
• During field operations periodic vapor concentration measurements may be taken
with an explosimeter or combustimeter. If at any time the vapor concentrations
exceed 10% of the LEL, then the Site Safety and Health Officer will immediately
shut down all operations. It is not anticipated that this scope of work will involve the
generation of explosive atmospheres.
• Only approved safety cans will be used to transport and store flammable liquids.
• All gasoline and diesel-driven engines requiring refueling must be shut down and
allowed to cool before filling.
• Smoking is not allowed during any operations within 50 feet on any work area in
which petroleum products or solvents in any form may be present. Smoking is not
allowed in the exclusion zone or the contaminant reduction zone at any time.
• No open flame or spark is allowed in any area containing petroleum products, or
other flammable liquids.
• A minimum of two 10-pound ABC fire extinguishers shall be available onsite.
• Geofon site personnel will be trained in the general principles of fire extinguisher use
and the hazards involved with initial stage fire fighting. No fires will be fought where
Geofon personnel may be in imminent danger; the local fire department will be
immediately notified.
30
