3.4.1 Waste Types <br /> 3.4.1.1 Solids <br /> Solid waste generation may consist mainly of soils. Also, solid wastes generated may <br /> include personal protective equipment and related wastes generated during work activities. The <br /> primary health risks from solids handled will be the potential for human exposure to benzene, <br /> toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene due to direct contact with contaminated materials. Therefore, <br /> all individuals involved in the handling of such waste will be required to comply with personnel <br /> protective equipment requirements specified in this document. <br /> 3.4.1.2 Liquids <br /> Liquid waste may be generated from equipment decontamination activities during work <br /> activities. The primary health risks associated with handling liquid wastes will be the potential <br /> for exposure to benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene. Therefore, individuals handling <br /> liquid wastes will comply with the personal protective equipment requirements specified in this <br /> document. <br /> 3.4.2 Hazard Classification <br /> 3.4.2.1 Heat/Cold Stress <br /> The adverse stress to the body due to exposure to severe heat can greatly diminish the <br /> ability of the body to function properly. Therefore all personnel involved in work activities will <br /> be monitored for heat stress disorders in accordance with the guidelines specified in this <br /> document. Cold stress is not anticipated to be a problem during the course of this project <br /> activity. <br /> 12 <br />
