The primary hazards of each are identified as follows: <br /> 1. Hydrocarbon fuels-Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. <br /> Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, <br /> nose, and throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. <br /> Symptoms of exposure at these concentrations include headache,nausea, drowsiness, <br /> dizziness, and loss of coordination Certain components of gasoline(BTE&X etc.)are <br /> known or suspected carcinogens. <br /> The following additional hazards are expected on site; typical work related to facility Noise <br /> falling rods, flying hammer, snapped cables etc <br /> D. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> Based on evaluation of potential hazards,the following levels of personal protection have been <br /> designated for the applicable work areas or tasks: <br /> Level D hard hat <br /> steel-toed boots <br /> half faced res.(if nec.) <br /> gloves <br /> We <br /> Ay <br /> If air purifying respirators are authorized, organic vapor and dust is the appropriate canister for use <br /> with the involved substances and concentrations. <br /> No changes of the specified levels of protection shall be made without the approval of the site <br /> safety officer and the project team leader. <br /> F. CONIMUrIICATION PROCEDURES <br /> If hearing is impaired,the following standard hand signals will be used: <br /> Hand gripping throat...........................................................Out of air, can't breathe <br /> Grip partner's wrist or both hands around waist.................Leave area immediately <br /> Hands on top of head..........................................................Need assistance <br /> Thumbs up..........................................................................Ok, I am alright, I understand <br /> Thumbsdown.....................................................................No,Negative <br /> G.
