Sample Collection <br /> A. Field Notebook - Technician shall keep a field notebook <br /> (preferably bound with numbered pages) to record <br /> pertinent site information. This notebook shall <br /> include at least the following; an accurate site map <br /> depicting the location of the site; dimensions of the <br /> excavations, distance from buildings, etc; sample <br /> collection procedures - reference sop ' s; dates, <br /> laboratory identification and the name of the sampling <br /> technician. <br /> B. Chain of Custody - Technician shall start a chain of <br /> custody form at the time of sampling. The page of the <br /> technician ' s field notebook should be referenced on the <br /> chain of custody. <br /> C. Soil Samples - The number and location of the samples <br /> are normally dictated by State, County or City <br /> officials. In situations where permission is given by <br /> the lead agency, the technician will use the sampling <br /> criteria suggested by the 2 June, 1988 , Regional Board <br /> Staff Recommendations for Initial Evaluation and <br /> Investigation of Underground Tanks. These criteria are <br /> referenced in this SOP in Tables #1, and #2 (attached) , <br /> and are taken directly from the afore mentioned <br /> Regional Board document. <br /> Soil samples for Hydrocarbon & Organolead analyses will <br /> be taken in thin-walled stainless steel or brass tubes <br /> which are at least three inches long by one inch in <br /> diameter. These tubes will be prepared by the Nzw v W <br /> analyzing laboratory (see "containers") . Soilrsa les <br /> � are to be taken from beneath the tank pit a�of <br /> 2` two feet into the native soil .' The number o samples <br /> and the locations are specified in Table #1. If <br /> obviously stained and contaminated soils are detected <br /> in areas other than the specified locations, these ' <br /> unspecified areas shall be sampled also. Samples will <br /> 1 <br />
