These requirements do not apply to scaffolds (see Subpart L, 1926.451). <br /> Contractor must provide a training program for all workers who may be exposed to fall <br /> hazards. The training program will include: <br /> • procedures to be followed to minimize fall hazards <br /> • the nature of fall hazards in the work area <br /> • correct procedure for erecting, maintaining, dissembling and inspecting fall protection <br /> systems <br /> • the use and operation of guardrails, personal fall arrest systems, safety nets, warning line <br /> systems, safety monitoring systems, controlled access zones and other protection methods <br /> • the role of each worker in the safety monitoring system (if this method is used) <br /> • the role of employees in fall protection plans <br /> U. Asbestos Program - 29 CFR 1926.1101 <br /> Many building materials prior to 1980 contained asbestos. Construction work which could <br /> disturb asbestos-containing materials is subject to stringent regulation by OSHA. The <br /> following operations are covered by the OSHA asbestos regulations: <br /> • demolition <br /> • removal or encapsulation or asbestos-containing materials <br /> • asbestos spill/emergency cleanup <br /> • transportation, disposal or storage of asbestos <br /> Before disturbing materials which could contain asbestos (wall board, floor tile, mastics, <br /> roofing materials, insulation, acoustic materials, other materials), the materials must either be <br /> sampled to find out whether or not the regulations are applicable (if positive for asbestos) or <br /> assume the materials contain asbestos and implement asbestos operations and handling <br /> procedures. Please notify your ARCO Construction representative for directions on <br /> manifesting and reporting. <br /> Workers who disturb asbestos are subject to training requirements and protective measures <br /> based on the degree of asbestos-related activity. Compliance note: asbestos-related work is <br /> a highly regulated field. In addition to OSHA requirements, there are significant environmental <br /> requirements (Environmental Protection Agency, Health Departments, Air Agencies). <br /> Asbestos operations should be left to licensed asbestos contractors. <br /> V. Lead Program - 29 CFR 1926.62 <br /> The Lead Standard applies to all construction operations where lead may be involved, such <br /> as: new construction, alteration, repair or renovation of structures.
