Bid No. 86-1
Contract No. 10A514-
Page. 22 of - 48-
The sampling. and test method employed shall be reported along with the
test results in the investigation summary report..
SAMPLING OF GROUNDWATER if required)
The Contractor shall drill one bore hole at each end of underground tank.
The- hole should be located betweeen two and five feet from the tank, and placed.
in. a manner that- will avoid any underground piping or peripheral equipment .
Drilling shall be accomplished by hollow stem auger, and auger or equivalent in
order to obtain representative- samples for analysis.
At, least. one- soil sample shall be taken from each hole. If groundwater is not
encountered above- the elevation- of- the tank bottom, one- soil sample shall be.
taken from one. foot above- the- elevation of the tank bottom, and one. (soil )
sample shall be taken from° one to two feet below the elevation of the tank
bottom. If groundwater is encountered above the elevation of the tank bottom,
one (soil ) sample shall -e taken for each 3 feet of depth above the water
table. Past, records. indicate the water table is between 25 and 35 feet below,
the surface in- this area
If groundwater- is not encountered i-n any of the- borings,, one boring will be
continued until groundwater is encountered-. Sampling shall be taken at 5-foot
intervals throughout the depth of the° boring. A representative sample of
groundwater must be obtained-. for testing.
The- bore holes shall be backfilled with impermeable material and capped (or as
directed by the Contract Administrator)- after satisfactory sampling- is-
completed.
ampling- iscompleted.
The location of each bore hole and the selection of samples to be analyzed are
to be approved by the Contract Administrator.
Prior to drilling each hole, the hollow-stem augers or equivalent and all
sampling equipment shall be steamed. clean to prevent sample contamination.
One groundwater sample shall be taken in each bore hole, if- groundwater is
encountered. The- groundwater- sample- shall be taken with a clean bailer and
deposited into a. sterile container with a watertight cap. Care must be taken
in obtaining the. water samples from the bore- holes so that groundwater is not
mixed with sediments.
The Contractor shall prepare and submit, with the investigative summary report,
a- bore hole .log report showing:
1. Color, texture,. odor,. moisture conditions and composition of the
material .
2. Intervals of material containing waste.
3. Amount of sample recovery (sufficient sample must be recovered to permit
an accurate analysis) .
