Bid No. 86-1 <br /> Contract No. 10A514- <br /> Page. 22 of - 48- <br /> The sampling. and test method employed shall be reported along with the <br /> test results in the investigation summary report.. <br /> SAMPLING OF GROUNDWATER if required) <br /> The Contractor shall drill one bore hole at each end of underground tank. <br /> The- hole should be located betweeen two and five feet from the tank, and placed. <br /> in. a manner that- will avoid any underground piping or peripheral equipment . <br /> Drilling shall be accomplished by hollow stem auger, and auger or equivalent in <br /> order to obtain representative- samples for analysis. <br /> At, least. one- soil sample shall be taken from each hole. If groundwater is not <br /> encountered above- the elevation- of- the tank bottom, one- soil sample shall be. <br /> taken from one. foot above- the- elevation of the tank bottom, and one. (soil ) <br /> sample shall be taken from° one to two feet below the elevation of the tank <br /> bottom. If groundwater is encountered above the elevation of the tank bottom, <br /> one (soil ) sample shall -e taken for each 3 feet of depth above the water <br /> table. Past, records. indicate the water table is between 25 and 35 feet below, <br /> the surface in- this area <br /> If groundwater- is not encountered i-n any of the- borings,, one boring will be <br /> continued until groundwater is encountered-. Sampling shall be taken at 5-foot <br /> intervals throughout the depth of the° boring. A representative sample of <br /> groundwater must be obtained-. for testing. <br /> The- bore holes shall be backfilled with impermeable material and capped (or as <br /> directed by the Contract Administrator)- after satisfactory sampling- is- <br /> completed. <br /> ampling- iscompleted. <br /> The location of each bore hole and the selection of samples to be analyzed are <br /> to be approved by the Contract Administrator. <br /> Prior to drilling each hole, the hollow-stem augers or equivalent and all <br /> sampling equipment shall be steamed. clean to prevent sample contamination. <br /> One groundwater sample shall be taken in each bore hole, if- groundwater is <br /> encountered. The- groundwater- sample- shall be taken with a clean bailer and <br /> deposited into a. sterile container with a watertight cap. Care must be taken <br /> in obtaining the. water samples from the bore- holes so that groundwater is not <br /> mixed with sediments. <br /> The Contractor shall prepare and submit, with the investigative summary report, <br /> a- bore hole .log report showing: <br /> 1. Color, texture,. odor,. moisture conditions and composition of the <br /> material . <br /> 2. Intervals of material containing waste. <br /> 3. Amount of sample recovery (sufficient sample must be recovered to permit <br /> an accurate analysis) . <br />
