' Martin Thorpe
WCISS SSSOCUTES
16 October 1987 4
ground water and to further define the distribution of hydrocarbons in
unsaturated soil
The site is located approximately 350 ft west of City of Lodi Municipal
Well No. 1, a supply well for the Lodi drinking water system (Figure 1) .
According to information provided by Richard C. Prima of the Lodi Building
Department, this well was originally drilled to a depth of 410 ft below grade,
has a current depth of 292 ft, and is drawing most of its water from. a shallow'
aquifer. Fran Forkas of the Lodi Department of Public Works (LDPW). has
indicated that Well No. l is pumped for approximately 2 hours every otherday,
has a pumping capacity of approximately 1,800 gallons per minute (gpm) , and,
due to sanding problems, is scheduled for replacement by a new well drilled
farther east. Mr. Forkas also indicated that water samples collected from the
municipal well in January 1987 and on 25 August 1987 contained no detectable
VOCs. The samples were analyzed at AnLab of Sacramento, California for BTX by
EPA Method 602 wich a detection limit of 1 part per billion (ppb) .
SOIL BORING, SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
The borings for monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 were drilled on 22
and 23 July 1987 with a hollow-stem auger drilling rig operated by Exploration
Geose.rvices of San Jose, California (EGS) . The drilling was supervised by WA
geologist Joseph Theisen.
Boring locations are -sho wn on Figure 2. They were determined by WA and
satisfy SJLMD requirements. MW-1 was drilled approximately 9 ft northeast of
the tank excavation to determine soil and ground water quality adjacent to and
beneath the excavation. MW-2 was drilled approximately 80 ft southwest of the
tank excavation in a dirt parking area owned by Mrs. Lehr. It was located in
the anticipated down-hydraulic gradient direction from the excavation. Buried
utilities and overhead electrical lines prevented drilling this boring any
closer to the rank excavation (Figure 2) . MW-3 was located 45 ft east of the
tank excavation, directly between the excavation and the City of Lodi
municipal well. MW-1 and MW-3 are situated in the parking lot 'of the
neighboring business at 216 E. Lodi Avenue. Nick . Von Flue, the owner of
