Lodi Avenue, and Dick Schauer, the property lessee, authorized <br /> installation of the wells on their property. <br /> Soil samples were collected from the boreholes every 5 ft to confirm <br /> stratigraphy and for possible chemical analysis. Samples were collected in <br /> steam-cleaned 2-in. diameter brass tubes. They were immediately trimmed, <br /> sealed with aluminum foil and plastic end caps, hermetically sealed with duct <br /> tape, and labeled and refrigerated for transport under chain-of-custody <br /> procedures to Brown and Caldwell Analytical Laboratories of Emeryville, <br /> California (B&C) . The auger flights and sampling equipment were steam-cleaned <br /> prior to use and between boreholes and the sampling equipment was rinsed <br /> between samples. Copies of chain-of-custody forms for the soil samples are <br /> included as Attachment A. <br /> Soil samples were surveyed in the field with an OVA which detects VOC <br /> vapor emissions from the soil and has a detection limit of 0.2 parts per <br /> million by volume (ppmv) . The deepest unsaturated soil samples from borings <br /> MW-1, Moi-2 and MW-3 were submitted to B&C for chemical analysis. As requested <br /> by the SSLHD, two additional unsaturated soil sample, from MW-1 were analyzed <br /> to confirm OVA readings detected during drilling. OVA readings and laboratory <br /> analytic results for soil samples are presented in Table 1 and copies of B&C <br /> laboratory analytic reports are included as Attachment B. <br /> The OVA detected VOC vapor in all soil samples collected from MW-1. OVA <br /> readings for these samples ranged from 25 ppmv at 65.5 ft to greater than <br /> 1,000 ppmv at 21.2, 36.0 and 41.0 ft. No VOC vapor was detected by the OVA in <br /> soil from MW-2. VOC vapors at 8.5 ppmv were detected by the OVA in a sample <br /> collected from 50.5 ft in MW-3. <br /> ILaboratory analytic results were below detection for the soil samples <br /> from MW-2 and MW-3. TFHC concentrations in samples from MW-1 ranged from 140 <br /> ppm at 46.2 ft to 6,900 ppm at 16.2 ft below grade. <br />
