• - Martin Thorpe `—'
16 October 1987 - 9 WEISS ASSOCp7E3 VF
gallons were withdrawn from MW-1, 80 gallons from MW-2, and 60 gallons from
MW-3. The development water was directed to 55-gallon drums for temporary
storage on site. Well development field data sheets are included as
Attachment D.
The estimated flow rates for the three wells are: 1.8 gpm for MW-1, 1.3
gpm for MW-2 and 0.8 gpm for MW-3. Well yields calculated from airlift
evacuation are not as accurate as those from pumping and may be significantly
less than the potential yield of the well . These flow rates are within
expected ranges for the soil types screened.
On 13 August 1987, 48 hrs after development, water samples were collected
from the wells and a composite sample was collected of the development water.
Samples were collected with steam-cleaned teflon bailers and were decanted
into 40-m1 glass vials, labeled, refrigerated and transported under
chain-of-custody procedures to B&C for analysis.
. B&C was only able to analyze these samples for TFHC and EDB. Therefore,
the wells were resampled by B&C on 8 September 1987. Prior to sampling, B&C
. personnel removed approximately 8. 5 well volumes of ground water from each
well with bailers and a submersible pump. Samples were then collected with
steam-cleaned teflon bailers, were decanted into 40-m1 glass vials and were
labeled and refrigerated for transport to B&C. Copies of B&C chain-of-custody
forms are included in Attachment A and B&C water sampling data sheets are
included as Attachment E.
ANALYTIC RESULTS FOR WATER SAMPLES
Water samples collected on 13 August 1987 were analyzed Tor TFHC by
GC/FID with a detection limit of 1 ppm and by CC/ECD for EDB with a detection
limit of 0.6 ppb. Samples collected by B&C on 8 September 1987 were analyzed
by AA for soluble lead with a detection limit of 1 ppb and by GC/PID for BTX
with a detection limit of 0.5 ppb. TFHC was detected only in water samples
from wells MW-1 and MW-3 at 13 ppm and 14 ppm respectively. Benzene was found
in all three wells, ranging from 5.0 ppb in MW-2 to 2,800 ppb in MW-3. EDB
