Trench Sizing
Piping trenches should be dug in such a manner
that the trench width is equal to at least twice the
width of all the flexible pipes contained within. All
Piping should be positioned in the trench so they
are a minimum of 2- (50mm) apart. Trench turns
should be sweeping rather than sharp angles.
The bottom of the trench should be as uniform as
Possible to eliminate high spots to insure an even
layer of bedding material under the pipe.
Remove all sharp rocks and debris from the
trench bottom before bedding material Is
installed.
Bedding'& Backfill Materials
Approved bedding and backfill materials for the GeoFtex Piping System shall meet the following specifications:
Sweeping Tums
Pea Gravel Crushed Stone Sand
Rounded pea gravel is permitted with a minimum Crushed stone is permitted providing It shall be River or other approved sand. Is permitted
diameter of 1/8" and a maximum diameter of 3/4". washed clean and be of the free flowing type with providing it shall be washed clean and is free
an angular stone size between 1/8' and 1/0. flowing. When backfllling make sure sand Is
(Meets ASTM C-33 paragraph 9.1 requirements.) evenly distributed and Packed around the piping.
NOTE: A minimum of 6" (15Omm) of approved bedding material shall be spread evenly along the bottom of the trench. All bedding and
backfill materials should be dry and free from Ice, snow and debris. Using material other than those described above without
written approval from Environ Products Inc will void the product warranty.
GeoFtex Sloping
If a continuous slope or 'fall" is required from the last dispenser on a piping
run to the lank then the tanks should be buried at a sufficient depth and the
pipe entry height into the dispenser sump should be of sufficient elevation so
that 1/8" of fall per lineal foot is maintained. Check your local code
regulations for fall requirements other than that which is previously stated..
Pressure Piping Systems (No Interstitial Monitoring)
For Pressure Piping Systems which are routed in series and do not use the
Liquid. Interstitial Monitoring System then it is is recommended that center
sloping between containment sumps be used. This application requires a
high point between containment sumps, allowing any leaking product to flow
to either containment sump. Deep Dispenser Sumps are required for this
type of application.
Overburden
Unpaved Surface
If the surface is unpaved, then a minimum of 12'
(300mm) of approved backfill material should be
installed between the top of the GeoFtex Piping
and the top of the ground. surface.
Pressure Piping Systems (With Interstitial Monitoring)
For Pressure Piping Systems which are routed in series and the Liquid
Interstitial Monitoring System is used., sloping of the piping Is unnecessary
Providing that the elevation of the liquid level monitor is higher than the
highest elevation of the piping. The monitor will still be able to detect a leak
in the GeoFtex Piping even If there are high and low elevations in the piping.
Shallow Dispenser Sumps are recommended for use in this application.
Suction Piping Systems
Sloping the Geo Flex Piping from the dispenser back to the tank is always
required for Suction Piping Systems where maintaining prime is necessary.
Shallow Dispenser Sumps are recommended for use In this application.
Asphalt Surface
It the surface is a minimum of 2' (50mm) of
asphalt, a minimum of 6" (150mm) of approved
backfill material should separate the top of the
G -Flex Piping from the bottom of the asphalt.
Concrete Surface
If the surface is a minimum of 4" (100mm) of
reinforced concrete, a minimum of C (100mm) of
approved backfill material should separate the top
of the G -Flex Pipe and the bottom of the concrete.
Backfilling
Backfilling of the GeoFlex Piping System should occur only after the final integrity testing has been performed. Prior to backfilling completely, hand shovel
the backfill material between and to the outside of the pipe to maintain the 2" (50mm) minimum required spacing between the pipes and walls of the trench.
Final backfilling shall be done slowly and evenly so as not to disturb the spacing of the piping.
