0 P W 5 3 V B A L L
Federal EPA Technical Standards
0
F L 0 A T V E N T V A L V
Federal EPA technical standards for overfill prevention of petroleum UST's allow
the use of ball float vent valves that restrict the delivery flow when the UST is over-
filled. The EPA requirements state that this flow restriction must occur when the
tank is no more than 90% full. The OPW 53VML series is designed to consistently
and dramatically reduce delivery flow rate. (See OPW 30MV to comply with EPA
standards for a 30 minute warning.)
Important
Installing the incorrect length OPW 53VML for your specific UST application
may result in delivery flow restriction at liquid levels exceeding the 90% maximum
established by EPA. Always consult the appropriate tank charts and determine the
specifics of your UST installation to determine the appropriate length OPW
53VML. The illustration and instructions below are intended to serve as a guide in
this determination.
Existing Installation
(yanks buried or backfilled)
♦ Measure distance "I" from a
reference point near grade level to
the top of the extractor cage bar.
+ Using the appropriate wrench,
remove the extractor cage and
existing float vent valve.
s Measure distance "if" from the same
reference point near grade level to
the inside diameter of the UST. Or,
using a dipstick, determine the
distance from the reference point to
the bottom of the UST, and subtract
the tank inside diameter.
s From (lie correct lank chat, determine
the distance "IV" that corresponds to
l0% of the total UST capacity.
o OPW 53VML length (VI) = If + IV -
I - III
New Installation
ClGmks not buried)
♦ Follow the same procedure above or
measure and calculate dimension
"V" from the inside diameter of the
UST to the end of a 2" npt. pipe
threaded into the extractor cage. The
nominal light engagement of 2" pipe
threads is X".
♦ OPW 53VML length (VI) =1V + V
Technical Notes
Q For extended manway applications,
the total length of coupling and pipe
extension for the OPW 53VML
Should match the length of the
nnanway extender.
=
Grade Level
OPW 1711T(up
OPW 161 ]AV vapor
return titling
OPW 233V or 233VM Vapor
recovery/extractor fining
ES
