•
Monitoring Systems
Effective Hydrostatic Monitoring
Systems for Xerxes Double Wall Tank
Xerxes double wall tanks may be monitored with a variety of
systems. Each monitoring mode — depending on the eco-
nomics of the installation — is designed to detect a leak in
either the primary or secondary tank as well as the attached
collar riser.
Should an installation require maximum round-the-clock morn
itoring of tank interstitials, attached collar risers, and/or tank
level conditions, a variety of options are available in both our
LU and LPD series consoles which are preconfigured to
accept from I to 9 sensors.
Typical three -tank installation with control panel individuaV monitoring the
attached collar risers and tanks.
Controller/Monitor
The control unit provides LED's (indicator lights) to show the
individual operating condition of each sensor in the installa-
tion. The control unit, also equipped with an audible alarm,
may be located up to 2000' from the installation.
Control Unit (Three -Channel Panel Shown)
The controller is also equipped with a test switch to prove
the system functional. The control panel is weather and
corrosion -resistant.
0 Lt O
*PD1 O
O PD2 O
Horn
r®r o HOP®OFFIJI [Units up to nine channels
also available.)
14
Monitoring the Tank with a
Reservoir Probe
The accurate monitoring of the primary and secondary tank
walls is accomplished through the use of an electronic sensor
and the tank -mounted hydrostatic reservoir.
With the interstitial space and reservoir factory -filled with t J
liquid to a predetermined level, a hydrostatic pressure is
applied to the inner and outer tank walls.
If a leak should ever occur in the inner tank, the liquid level in
the reservoir will drop as monitoring Fluid drains into the pri-
mary tank. Should a leak develop in the outer wall, the moni-
toring fluid will drain into the excavation and again lower the
level of monitoring fluid.
Should a leak occur in the outer wall during high -groundwa-
ter conditions, the level of the monitoring fluid will rise as out-
side water seeps into the interstitial space. In any of these situ-
ations, a change in the liquid level beyond the acceptable lira
its will activate the alarm.
Power Igreen) —The system is powered.
Alarm (red) —The alarm light, plus an audible warning, will indicate
either a high level condition for reservoir sensors or a
fuel condition for PD -Series Sensors.
Alarm (yellow) —The alarm light, plus an audible warning, will indicate
either a low level condition for reservoir sensors or a
water condition for PD -Series Sensors. 0
The electronic monitoring system is listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.
The monitor sensors for the reservoir and riser are intrinsically safe for use in
Class 1, Group D, hazardous locations, as defined by the National Electrical Code.
