beneath the former fuel dispenser location. In addition, four soil samples (SP-1, SP-2, SP-1-
D, and SP-2-D) were taken from the excavation overburden spoils pile, to facilitate soil
disposal (Figure 4).
The soil samples from the tank excavation side walls were collected from native soil in the
backhoe bucket, utilizing two-inch by six-inch brass sleeves. The dispenser and stockpile
samples were collected using a sample coring device, containing two inch by six inch brass
sleeves. The sample corer was driven into each desired sampling location using an attached
slide hammer. The backhoe was not used to obtain the dispenser or stockpile samples. Soil
sampling locations are shown on Figures 3 and 4.
After collection and labeling, the samples were immediately put on ice and cooled to
approximately 4°C. Chain of Custody documentation accompanied all samples from the time
of collection to the time of delivery to the onsite Sparger Technology Incorporated laboratory.
Copies of the Analysis Request and Chain of Custody records for these samples are included
' in this UST removal report as Appendix D.
2.3 Sample Analysis
The methods utilized in the analysis of the soil samples were modified EPA Method 8015
with a gasoline standard and Method 8020 used for BTEX distinction. The duplicate
composite stockpile soil samples (SP-1-D and SP-2-D) were additionally analyzed for total
lead and reactivity, corrosivity, and ignitability (RCI) to facilitate disposal, using EPA method
7420 and California Title 22 Section 66261.21 - 66261.23 methodology respectively.
A state-certified mobile laboratory operated by Sparger Technology Incorporated, was utilized
onsite for the gasoline and BTEX analysis of the original soil samples (5) collected during
' tank excavation. Duplicate composite stockpile soil samples (SP-1-D and SP-2-D) were
collected for the purpose of additional analysis, which the mobile lab was not able to perform.
' The duplicate soil samples were analyzed (for total lead and RCI) by McCampbell Analytical
Incorporated in Pacheco, California.
' Analysis of soil samples collected from the unleaded gasoline tank excavation side walls (TP-
A and TP-2) and beneath the dispenser island ('Dispenser") revealed no detectable
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons.
MZ104-11-95/UST/95.0102.NBR 3
