INEER!NG TEI, l 2 823 P. 00 <br /> SCOPE OF WORK FOR TANK CLOSURE AND COWLIANCE SAMPLING <br /> Tosco Northwest Company Facility No. 02479 <br /> 7647 Pacific Avenue <br /> Stockton, California <br /> May 19, 1995 <br /> IN'TRODUC'ITON <br /> This proposed scope of work for tank closure and compliance sampling at Tosco Northwest <br /> Company Facility No. 02479, 7647 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California will be conducted in <br /> accordance with the Sart Joaquin County Environmental Health Division and the California <br /> Regia al Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Regiom <br /> SCOPE OF WORK <br /> The proposed scope of work will consist of the following tasks: <br /> Task 1: Observe and Document Removal of Underground Fuel Tanks <br /> All field activities related to removal of three underground fuel storage tmks <br /> will be documented. Activities to be documented wW include tank rinsing, <br /> excavation of the backfill material, and loading/securement of the tanks for <br /> transport. <br /> The size, condition, and contents of the tanks; amount of residue pumped from <br /> the tanks and disposition, if applicable; amount of dry ice placed into each tank, <br /> and lower explosive limits and percent oxygen readings as measured by the Fire <br /> Department or County inspector will be recorded. <br /> Task 2. Collect Coirâ–º fiance Soil Sam es for Tank Closure <br /> One sail sample will be collected from beneath each end of each tank in the <br /> excavati,cm cavity from a depth of approximately 1 to 2 feet into the native <br /> material. If groundwater is encountered in the cavity, soil samples will be <br /> collected from the sidewalk of the excavation, and a grab water sample will be <br /> collected. In additicm, a soil sample will be collected along every 20 feet of <br /> product litre dimension and below each dispenser island. <br /> The samples will be collected directly from the backhoe bucket by scraping off <br /> the surface soil and bamrnering a clean stainless steel tube directly into the soil <br /> retrieved. The sampling tube will be filled with soil and the ends immediately <br /> covered with Teflon sheeting or aluminum foil and polyvinyl chloride caps and <br /> sealed with tape to maintain air tightness.
