Mr. Tim P. Becker 2 June 17, 1988
o Obtained two soil samples, SS-1N and SS-1S to verify, by laboratory
analysis, the observed lack of hydrocarbons in the tank pit. The
' sample was analyzed for total volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (TVPH) ,
lead (Pb), ethylene dibromide (EDB) , and benzene, toluene, and xylene
(BTX) . The sample locations are shown on Figure 2 and the sampling
' methodology and preservation techniques are described in Attachment A.
Laboratory reports are provided in Attachment C.
o Backfilled the tank pit with clean soil and compacted the backfill to
' minimize settling.
Concluding Remarks
From field observations and laboratory analyses, the following statement
can be made about the soil conditions at the tank site in Lodi :
' o Laboratory analyses resulted in nondetectable levels of TVPH, EDB,
BTX, and lead in the soil below the gasoline tank (Tank A) . This
confirms the observed lack of contamination noted during tank removal
operations.
' Based on the above stated condition, Canonie recommends that no additional
work be performed at the site in connection with the tank removal .
In accordance with CAC Title 23, Chapter 3, Water Resources Control Board
Subchapter 16, Underground Storage Tank Regulations and the San Joaquin
County Underground Storage Tank Removal Procedures governing underground
' storage tank removals in Lodi , California, copies of this letter and
attachments should be forwarded to the following agency:
Mr. Harlan Knoll
' San Joaquin Local Health District
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
We appreciate the opportunity to have been of service on the project.
Should you have any questions or comments, please contact us.
' Very truly yours,
Alan L. Muellerleile
Project Engineer
Jeffreylaiber P.E.
' Project Supervisor
ALM/JAK/ssm
' Enclosures
CanonieEnvironmental
