1 10. <br /> ' o individuals performing the work are skilled in techniques for <br /> excavating and sampling; including material loading, sample <br /> handling. decontamination, sample packaging and transport, and <br /> waste packaging and transport. <br /> ' 3.4.2 Risks Associated with Inhalation Exposure <br /> With regard to potential inhalation, the following specific activities <br /> could cause a potential exposure: <br /> o Volatilization from soil removal , excavation, and handling <br /> contaminated soil . <br /> o Volatilization from removal of product and wash water during <br /> tank purging and cleaning. <br /> The exposure potential via inhalation of volatile compounds is also <br /> considered low for the following reasons: <br /> ' o Tank(s) contents will be removed by SPTCo. prior to mobilization of <br /> Canonie personnel on-site. <br /> o Tank(s) are closed and do not allow significant volatilization to <br /> occur. <br /> o Half-face respirators will be maintained on-site to protect against <br /> inhalation exposure, if necessary. <br /> o Air monitoring will be performed as a precaution during all on-site <br /> operations and, if necessary, respiratory protection procedures <br /> will be implemented. <br /> 3.4.3 Risks Associated with Physical Hazards <br /> The physical hazards of working with heavy machinery and the potential for <br /> heat stress are not considered any different from standard construction <br /> ' operations. Risks will be minimized through the use of properly trained <br /> and experienced personnel and through the use of personal protective <br /> equipment (hard hats, steel toed boots, earplugs) and rest periods. <br /> Ca Knowe E nv i t on menta l <br />
