11.
MonitorinQ Plan
' During waste excavation, waste loading, and tank purging/cleaning
operations, an Organic Vapor Analyzer (OVA) or equivalent will be used to
1 measure airborne levels of organic vapors. Readings will be taken above
the excavation and the tank to monitor the presence of vapors. In the
event that sustained readings of 20 ppm total organic vapors above
background levels are detected in the worker's breathing zone for S
minutes, work will be stopped and respirators will be donned by all
personnel in the active zone. In the event that levels of volatile
organics exceed the 20 ppm range, the site safety officer in consultation
with the corporate industrial hygienist will make a determination for the
need to further upgrade safety measures. Examples of possible upgrade
measures include:
o Full shift personnel air monitoring using SKC pumps and charcoal
sorbent tubes.
o Additional personal protective clothing and upgraded respiratory
protection.
a Additional on-site training and safety meetings.
' Air monitoring will be performed by the Site Safety Officer and will be
performed continuously during tank removal .
3.6 Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment will be worn by all personnel in the active
area.
