See Fig. 2.2.2. <br />2.2.3 Pipe Assembly <br />The containment pipe must be positioned over the prod- <br />uct pipe before bonding the product pipe. Pre -installa- <br />tion of the secondary containment pipe (only) is best ac- <br />complished at the same time the product pipe is dry -fitted <br />together. This will speed up installation and prevent un- <br />necessary delays. <br />Where possible, <br />temporarily place <br />containment fit- <br />ting halves around <br />the product fit- <br />tings. This mea- <br />sure will help pre- <br />vent foreign <br />material from en- <br />tering the contain- <br />ment pipe (see Fig. <br />2.2.3). <br />e o 0 <br />0 <br />0 <br />Lay out system <br />with all dry joints <br />FIGURE 2.2.3 <br />The containment fittings should be installed and the con- <br />tainment system tested after the product piping system <br />has been tested. Note: Do not leave rocks, pea gravel, <br />sand, or other debris in the containment piping sys- <br />tem. <br />Typically, the length of the containment pipe is deter- <br />mined from the following formula: <br />L = OAL of product pipe - X1 - X2 <br />Where: X1 = fitting #1 <br />X2 = fitting #2 <br />Using Table 2.2.1 and Fig. 2.2.4 as a guide, proceed as fol- <br />lows: <br />SECTION 2 ♦ System Preparation <br />1. Determine the length of the primary pipe. <br />2. Determine the fittings to be used on each end of the <br />primary pipe. Find the corresponding numbers in <br />Table 2.2.1 (X1 for first fitting, and X2 for the second <br />fitting); subtract them from the OAL. This will be the <br />length of the containment pipe. <br />Example: If 2" (50 mm) product pipe is 20 ft., 6 in. (6248 <br />mm) long, and you are using a 90° elbow on one end and <br />a 45° elbow on the other end, then cut the containment <br />pipe 20 ft,, 2 in. (6147 mm) long. <br />Calculation: <br />20'6" - 2V (fitting #1, 90° elbow) <br />- IV (fitting #2, 45° elbow) <br />= 20'2" <br />or <br />6248 mm - 54 mm (fitting #1, 90° elbow) <br />- 48 mm (fitting #2, 45° elbow) <br />= 6147 mm <br />WARNING: Since every insertion of the primary piping <br />may vary, dry fit all secondary containment connections <br />to make sure that the insertion is approximately 3". Be <br />sure that the containment pipe is not inserted too far into <br />the containment fitting.
