not-so-obvious hazards exist and to inform them of new potential <br /> hazards. <br /> Employees will be warned and instructed in the use of toxic <br /> chemicals, or substances containing toxic chemicals, to insure <br /> against the release of these chemicals into drinking water or <br /> onto land from which they may leach into substrata drinking <br /> water. <br /> Employees have been instructed in the location and <br /> availability of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and how to <br /> use them. Safety Equipment is available in designated areas <br /> for use with all hazardous material. <br /> EXCAVATION - TRENCHES <br /> 1 . Locate all existing utility or other underground facilities. <br /> Where aerial high voltage lines are in proximity requirements <br /> of 2946 must me met. <br /> 2. Notify underground facility owners 48 hours prior to <br /> excavation. <br /> 3 . Soild type to determine minimum safety shoring system and/or <br /> sloping. <br /> 4 . Protect workers from objects rolling or sliding into <br /> excavation. <br /> 5 . Protect against danger from fragmented or crumbling rock. <br /> 6 . Safe entry and exit to and from excavation ( ladder-slope <br /> ramp-stairway. <br /> 7 . Shoring designed to resist soil loads, traffic vibration, <br /> hydrostatic and seepage forces, surcharge and dynamic loads <br /> (pile driving blasting construction equipment) and <br /> temperature and moisture factors causing dimensional changes <br /> in structural members or heaving of excavation base. <br /> Sloping-at least 3/4 : 1 or angle or repose of soil encountered. <br /> Spoil-clear excavation edge by a minimum of two ( 2 ) feet. <br /> HAZARD CORRECTION <br /> Hazards, potential hazards, and defects may be discovered <br /> during routine inspections or during the course of the work <br /> day by employees . If the hazard poses an immediate danger to <br /> health or safety, that operation or piece of equipment will <br /> be immediately shut down or be put out of service until the <br /> hazard or defect has been corrected. A potential hazard must <br /> be reported to the Safety Manager, who will arrange for repair <br /> or replacement. The potential hazard will be corrected <br /> immediately if possible or as soon as is practical when the <br /> equipment or machinery has been shut down and is safe to work <br /> 3 <br />
